The Purpose of Training

Training increases fitness and helps you identify racing preferences.

The more you train your horse, the more training data you will have to assess its ability and racing preferences.

Your monthly stabling fee includes three free daily training runs.

Training Results

Training results are measured in horse lengths by which your horse beats or loses against the training horse. The training horse is a consistent benchmark against which all horses can be measured and thus allows you to compare horses.

Training Results are confidential.

How to Train

Click the TRAIN button either on your stable section or on the horse section. You can train over various conditions using the drop down options aligned with the horse.

You can chose the track, distance and going over which you would like to train your horse. Be sure to select a training horse of the same age and sex of your horse to achieve an appropriate performance benchmark.

Fortunately, inactivity does not affect fitness and training just before a race does not adversely affect performance.

Be careful when training before an important race though as you can easily over train such that the fitness of your horse flips past 100% back to 50%.

Training sessions can be run one horse at a time, or for up to 20 horses simultaneously if you have more than one horse in your stable.

How to use the Auto Trainer

This tool helps you keep your horses racing fit by training them according to your settings.

You can set default training conditions for your stable. The default options at the top of this section include track, distance and going. A specific selection can be made for each of these or you can choose all in which case the conditions will rotate for each successive training gallop. You also need to set the default fitness level below which a horse will be automatically trained.

You can set these same settings for each individual horse in your stable or simply select your default settings to apply to each horse. This is easily done for a large stable by using the “Apply to All” tool above your stable listing.

Be sure to enable auto train for your horse by selecting the tick box at the end of the row, then click the update button at the bottom of the section.

The ‘All’ Option Sequence for Training

The sequence for distance is 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, 2200, 2400, 2850, 3200.

Get into virtual horse racing today. Its the most fun you can have online without having to clean the barn!

You are the owner and trainer of a horse. You enter it into a race and it is ridden by a jockey allocated by the game system. You do not have to be online at the time of the race, but it is fun to watch it race live and cheer it home.

You can select training run options which include track, distance and going (track condition). For now just choose the All default option. This will ensure that each successive run progresses through the distances for you to compare later.

Click the TRAIN button in line with your horse.

The results will display in this format:

Your primary aim is to just get the horse fit. You want your horse to reach at least 90% to race optimally.

Performance is measured in lengths, being lengths ahead (LA) or behind (LB) the training horse (TH). As you develop your training skills, you will find that you are better able to interpret your training results and lengths. The general rule is that the further your horse beats the training horse by, the better. It is important to note however that the longer the training distance, the greater the lengths margin over the training horse. With time you will learn what length margin to adjust by to narrow down the optimal race distances for each horse.

Your first horse is already fit to race, unless you have already trained it “over the top” - when you train past 100%, its fitness reverts to 50% to start the cycle again.

Horses can be run up to 3 times a day in training runs. However, on the first day of purchasing a new horse from the Sales Ring you will be able to train it to at least 90%.

From the horse details page (click on your horse name to get here), click on the check box next to each product. Alternatively click on the + symbol below the required product on the Stable page.

You will be directed to the Apply Equipment page where the following selections are offered:

Most products enhance a horse’s performance. Blinkers can have a negative impact on some horses. Ignore blinkers for now.

Make sure these are applied:

Alumites (aluminium racing shoes) expire so you need to make sure that they are on when racing. You can use the multi apply option to automatically replace old shoes. Just make sure you always keep stock though.
Gelding (neutering colts). A painful snip but necessary to improve performance. Ouch!
Fillies Fuel (performance stimulant). A nice virtual touch that gives some fillies a big boost.
Vitamins boost fitness, not speed. They are a great tool to get a horse fit quickly and have no training gallops left. Be careful though as they increase fitness by 5% to 10% and can push fitness over the top.

Click in line with your horse.

Only races for which your horse is eligible to race in will then display.

Races are displayed according to their start times.

Races also vary by category, distance, track, going and entry fee (if not FREE). Races with entry fees start at 50c and carry prize money.

Maiden races are the starting point in graded racing – it means none of the runners have won a race, denoted “W0” under Conditions.

You can filter the race list or just scroll down the list and select one that you like. If you are racing for FREE, there is no need to be fussy, just pick a race and have some fun. You will learn how to pick races to win.

Remember to process your race entry through the basket , even if it is a FREE race. The star denotes that something is in your basket.

Fitness increases by 0% to 4% in each race run.

Your race entry will remain pending until the race closes to entry, either 20 minutes before it runs or when the race has a full field of 14 runners. The entry will then be confirmed and your horse will show in the list of runners.

The race will count down to the start.

You can enjoy watching the race at the time it runs at the Race Track. You can also find your races run under either;

My Race Results and click on the race name. Watch the race at your convenience by just clicking the button associated with the race detail, or
The race history tab on the horse details page – just click on the horse name to get there.

The race viewer runs on Java as used by thousands of websites and mobile phones. If by chance you do not already have this, you will be prompted to download Java from Sun Microsystems.

Your first virtual horse is free – it is a 2 year-old male (colt). You can buy more though to establish a rounded stable. The objective is to find good horses capable of winning races over a variety of distances. Each horse has a unique pedigree and preferences. It is your job to assess the caliber of each horse through training and racing.

In the Sales Ring, you choose the horse colour, its name, sex and age; none of which will impact its race performance. For the latter you have choice between a 2 and a3 year old. Newbie stables are best advised to stick with 2 year olds to start with.

You can also claim horses from other owners or buy horses from other owners in auctions. Be careful of sales hype around auctions and claims, but there may be some good deals to be found. Remember though, the next champion would probably not be sold by another owner.

Your horse is created with a unique racing pedigree which determines its abilities and preferences. This ability may improve with age.

There are numerous variables that affect your horse's racing performance; however, through training your horse you will identify where your horse’s abilities lie. For example, does your horse prefer dirt / turf? Is it a sprinter, classic or stayer? Do blinkers or alumites enhance its racing performance etc?

Digiturf.com has no vested interest in the outcome of any of its races. Digiturf.com's has no vested interest in the outcome of races much like a real-world racecourse operator. Digiturf.com's members compete against each other, and Digiturf.com merely acts as a facilitator, or service provider, for that competition. There is an administrative charge, or service fee, for every stakes race which further guarantees that you are competing against other members, and not against Digiturf.com. This fee will never exceed 15% of the total nomination fees received for that stakes race, and this is one more guarantee to you that all Digiturf.com races are fair.

All horses celebrate their birthdays on the 1st of April, August & December. Each racing season lasts 4 calendar months; therefore your horse ages 3 years in a calendar year.

All horses are automatically retired from racing when they turn 8.

A L L O W A N C E S

The converse of penalties allows weaker horses to carry less weight than stronger rivals. Allowances and penalties can be combined in a race.

Eg: A horse with more wins in a final field would be penalized with the heaviest weight. However, allowances can be made for poor form so the final weight reflects a horse’s overall form.

A L U M I T E S

Aluminium shoes available from the tack shop are lighter than the generic, steel-based shoes included with your stabling fee. Alumites will improve racing performance.

B A R R I E R R A C E

Barrier Runs are training sessions to ascertain your horse’s preference for specific tracks, distances & goings. The results are compared as lengths against the Barrier horse; which in turn reflects the overall average of other horse’s results against which trainers can measure their own horse’s competitiveness.

Three runs daily are included with your monthly stabling fee. Run them individually or simultaneously by selecting the number of runs. Barrier results are confidential.

B A S K E T

All purchases that are made are placed in a "basket". These include purchasing a Digiturf.com horse, products for that Digiturf.com horse and entering the Digiturf.com horse in a race. Any transaction on the site that involves spending your credits will be placed in the "basket". You can view your basket throughout the website. Furthermore, if you end a session with items still in your basket that have not yet been paid for, when you log back in to the site, the basket with your items will still be visible.

B L I N K E R S

A fabric hood that may remove potential visual distractions during a race by focusing your horse’s attention straight ahead towards the finish line.

C H A M P I O N S H I P P O I N T S

Digiturf.com horses that participate in qualifying stakes races earn championship points based on their final positions in those races. The Digiturf.com horses with the most championship points are invited to take part in the championship races. There is a maximum of 14 invitations into a particular championship race.

C H A M P I O N S H I P R A C E S

Digiturf.com's season-ending championship day is held three times a calendar year. The Digiturf.com championship day consists of six championship races for two-year olds, three year-olds, and four-year olds. These include championship races specifically for colts and corresponding events for fillies. These races will take place over a variety of distances, tracks and goings. All Digiturf.com championship races are by invitation only, and will all carry added money to the purse. Invitations are made to 14 Digiturf.com horses per championship race, that have earned the most points by participating in the qualifying stakes races. All Digiturf.com horses that wish to qualify for a championship race must have won at least one race on the site and be championship candidates. This simply entails a one-time payment of the supplementary fee.

Meet the jockeys racing virtual horses online at Digiturf.com.

The Jockey riding your horse in every race is selected by the system rather than being determined by the owner of the horse.

As in live racing there is an unpredictable element in every race where a horse (& even the jockey) doesn’t run perfectly to form. This is represented by the Random Factor.

In Virtual Racing the Jockey simply represents the order/rank of the Random Factor in relation to the other horses in the race and is not an indication of the ‘weight’ of each Random Factor received. The best Jockey in the race represents the best Random Factor received whilst the worst Jockey indicates the worst Random received by a horse in the race, ie. each jockey does not represent a specific random factor. So an average jockey can represent a very good random in one race a very poor one in the next race.

The Random Factor number that is generated for each horse in a race is determined irrespective of who the horse is, its recent race results or who owns it, ie. completely random. This means, for example, that the closeness or gap between the best and second best Random Factors in races will differ in every race.

Jockeys are determined in the following way:

The race generator determines an outcome of the race based on each horses innate abilities, preferences for the race spec, the horses preparation for the race and a random factor. The race generator allocates a random factor to each horse in the race, without considering a horses ability, prep and preferences or race history – it is random and without any bias.

The race generator randomly selects Jockeys per the number of horses in the race.

The race generator allocates the best Jockey in the selected list to the best already determined RF, the next best Jockey to the next best RF and so forth, the poorest selected Jockey receiving the poorest RF.

Where horses are closely matched in terms of their abilities, such as Championship race series, it was found necessary to reduce the Random Factor element in relation to all other elements/factors such as horse fitness, weight, draw, ability over distance, ability over going, etc. This lower Random Factor is represented by the game only utilizing the top 17 of the 34 Jockeys in the Championship Finals and Qualifiers.

What sparked your interest in Digiturf?

I think my husband came across Digiturf from an ad listing from ESPN but I can't be sure.

What do you look forward to most when playing on Digiturf?

Watching the races being run to see if you spotted your horses in the right place.

How does playing on Digiturf compare to real horseracing?

In my opinion Digiturf compares very favorably to real racing, for the most part I play this in rather than going to the track because at this point I like the total involvement..

Tell us about your first winner and your other top horses?

I think my 1st winner here was Annie's Gargoyle in a (New Stable Race) but I can't be 100% sure. Some of my other top horses (homebred) were Annie's Dangerous, Gianni's Wildcat, Annie's Enforcer and Ann's Dangerous.

How was the Saratoga Sprint Championship?

I felt Annie's Amazon was my best chance of winning a Champ race for this year. She had her favorite distance and the track was muddy which is her dirt race preference. I thought she was going to win when I seen her position @ the 1/16 pole but she finished 2nd. I think anyone has to be satisfied with a 2nd place finish in a champ race being there all so competitive.

How do you prepare for the Championships?

I start preparing the 1st month of the season by getting my potential champ series horses in a shoe cycle. I'm one of the few trainers who feels shoes with only a few day's or hours left can effect the horse's performance. I also try and have any champ horse that I feel has a shot to place in the race in what I consider a positive racing cycle. Lastly I try and get the horse to a target fitness level depending on how many races he's entered in.

I don't intend on doing anything differently next year for the Champ series, I put more emphasis on the everyday blue collar races and if I get a champ quality horse I'll be happy but there getting harder and harder to aquire.

Who did you consider to be your biggest rival?

I was cautiously optimistic going into the race being I thought I had her in a very good cycle. I didn't have what I considered a biggest rival, I figured there were at least six horses that could beat her depending on the randoms. The winner Flying Object was certainly one of the horses on that list.

Do you have any routines before a Championship race?

Business as usual, have the horse fit and in cycle. My husband and I watched the race together.

How do you celebrate your Championship races?

We always go out for a great dinner. I think this year I might just hold the money in Digi account for reinvestment unless of course I can win one of my remaining two champ races. Either would be a surprise.

What are some of your top achievements?

Some of my top achievements were the ones that kept me playing. My husband who started all this was losing and getting frustrated when I took over. I decided to get mad rather than quit and I studied the game and was starting to turn a corner where my losses were getting smaller and smaller. I then bought Annie's Dangerous and she was the catalyst that generated my cash and interest. Achievements, turning the corner on my cash flow, winning more than one race in a day, reaching the top ten in the standings and of course winning the triple crown. I usually don't get much more excited in a big race because I love winning the small ones almost as much.

Do you remember winning your first race?

My best win was the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown.

The Queen Celebrates of Virtual Horse Racing wins her 10,000th race!!

The Queen Celebrates Her 10,000th Virtual Horse Racing Victory!

When Samster joined Digiturf.com she was just a small girl with big dreams that happened to ride into a one horse town in desperate need of a queen. Little did Samster and Digiturf.com know that they needed each other just as much for Digiturf.com to become the greatest virtual horse racing community in the world, and for Samster to become its queen.

Anyone can be successful in virtual horse racing if they apply themselves, because even at its most basic level Digiturf.com is a game of skill. You can even make a lot of money on Digiturf.com but you need to decide where. Samster’s long-term goal was to go from rookie to champion in the time it took to saddle her horses.

Samster was not an immediate success at virtual horse racing when she joined in February 2003,her stable was an unassuming one that produced more donkeys than champions race horses, but she told the Race Programmer that she would rather get mad than quit. She became a picky princess who unraveled every study guide she could so she could rule over every aspect of the every aspect of the game.

Her best decision was to concentrate on racing fillies, rather than colts, where she enjoyed some noteworthy successes. She was quickly dubbed the First Lady of virtual horse racing. Horse racing enthusiasts are initially attracted to Digiturf.com’s sponsorships. Obviously winning big money is a huge incentive on Digiturf.com, but Samster understood that to become a master of the game you need to win at least one championship title to be taken seriously.

The Championship Series on Digiturf.com is huge: three days of non-stop virtual racing over eighteen tracks with countless consolation races. Worth over $100,000 in sponsorships it is extremely competitive, to say the least, and it is not for the faint hearted. The Triple Crown Championships are the ultimate races for any horse owner. Winning one Triple Crown Championship is an accomplishment within its own right, but winning all three championships over consecutive days is virtually impossible, even in virtual racing. At the time, a Triple Crown victory almost implied that you descended from the Digi- gods because winning a Triple Crown was about as easy as trying to bottle lightning.

On November 27, 2003, Annie's Dangerous won her first championship title in the Triple Crown Sprint Championship. The following day she won the Triple Crown Classic Championship. Unbelievably, on the third day Annie's Dangerous won the Triple Crown Stayers Championship to rapturous applause as she became the first winner of the Virtual Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. It was a phenomenal accomplishment that has never been repeated; neither online at Digiturf.com nor in in real-life horse racing when Nijinsky won the Triple Crown in 1970.

Virtual horse racing fever captured the world's imagination. Even Bill Finley from NY Times expressed his disbelief that a virtual horse could earn $6,000.00, when he interviewed Samster on Sirius XM Radio. Ever gracious, the Queen of virtual horse racing corrected Bill, confirming that while Annie's Dangerous had won $6,000.00 in Digiturf.com's Triple Crown Championships, her filly had actually won close to $20,000.00 before she was retired from active racing. Samster even convinced the esteemed Bill Finley to try his hand at virtual horse racing.

Quick Overview of Championships

The Championship Series is the highlight of the racing season.

The best horses and stables compete for victory in the Finals.

Enter into Qualifiers to earn qualifying points.

The top 14 horses as per the Standings will be automatically entered into the Finals.

There are Consolation races for some horses that do not make the Finals.

There is generally a Championship Series for each age group and at each distance group being Sprint, Classic or Stayers.

Championship races are found under Races > Championship Series. This lists the Final race and Qualifying races for each Championship. You can also filter Future Races under Races for Qualifying races or Championship Final races. You can view the current points standings by selecting this link once you have selected any Qualifying or Final race. Previous Championship winners can be found under Leaderboards, Championship Winners.

Championships in More Detail

Championship Qualifier races are scheduled over the horseracing season (4 months), over varied distances for each age category. The series culminates in a Championship Final which is held during the last week of every season. Big prize money is sponsored on both the Qualifying Races and the Championship Finals which is put up by Digiturf.com.

To be eligible for Qualifying Races, your horse must have:

• A minimum of 1 race win for 2yr olds, 2 race wins for 3 year olds and 5 wins for 4 to 7 year olds.

• Paid the once-off supplementary fee (US$2.00 at purchase of horse, or US$50.00 at any other time). This will enable your horse to race in Qualifying races and Finals for its entire career.

How to Qualify for a Championship Final

The 14 horses that have accumulated the most points in the Qualifier races by the end of the season are automatically entered in the corresponding Championship Final race at no additional fee.

Each time your horse races in a Qualifier, it accumulates points toward qualifying for the Final.

A horse can participate in more than one Championship series and qualify for more than one Final.

Race your horse in as many Qualifier races as possible to ensure it makes the Final.

Championships Points Table

The Championship points system has been designed and implemented to give a fairer point allocation to horses entered in all Championship Series events.

This points system is particularly important for second instances of races so that horses entered in the first instance are not at a disadvantage as would be the case if fewer runners in a second instance earned the same points.

The table below shows the points that are allocated per race result according to the number of entries in the race:

Two points are allocated to every horse entered. These two points have been included in the table.

Rule on tie for 14th spot in a Championship Final

Where there are two horses that tie on points for 14th spot in a Championship Final, only one horse of the two can be selected to run in the Final. The following elimination factors then apply:

1) Points.

In the event that there are 2 horses with equal points, the system then looks at;

2) Number of qualifying races (the horse who got the points by running the least no of qualifiers goes through).

If these are equal, then the system looks at;

3) Best Position (the horse that ran the best position in the qualifiers goes through).

If these are equal, then the system looks at;

4) Number of Wins (The horse that had the most number of wins in the qualifiers goes through).

If these are equal, then the system looks at;

5) Earnings (the horse with the most earnings goes through).

Championship Consolation Races

Horses that do not qualify for the Final are automatically entered into a Consolation race. There are consolation races for each Championship Series.

Consolation races are sponsored with bonus credits and entrance is free.

The rules are as follows:

After the Finals have been declared, the next 14 qualifying horses by points will automatically be entered into the first instance of the Consolation race, while the following 14 qualifying horses will automatically be entered into the second instance, and so on.

Sponsorship amount is reduced for each subsequent instance of the Consolation races.

Consolation races will be set up at the beginning of a season but will only appear on the race calendar page on the same day as the corresponding Championship Final fields are declared.

Where a stable has more than 4 horses qualifying for the same Consolation, the horse/s with the lowest points from that stable will be placed into the next instance.

A horse must remain in an ‘Active’ status from Midnight (GMT) of the day prior to the running of the Consolation race or it will be rejected from the race.

Buy Equipment

Your stable can stock up on Equipment at any time, purchasable with cash or bonus credits. An items expiry period only starts from when it is first applied to a selected horse. Spare items can therefore be kept in your stable indefinitely until you are ready to use them.

Certain equipment lasts a lifetime while others require replacing after their expiry date:

Shoes (Alumites) expire after 30 days.

Gelding/Fillies Fuel is permanent.

Blinkers can be removed and re-applied.

Vitamins can be applied every 15 days.

Equipment ranges in price from US$1.00 to US$2.00.

Note: If you have selected to automatically reapply shoes (alumites) (the ‘multi’ option when applying) to a horse when they wear out, the system is reliant on your stable having pre-purchased stock of them.

Apply Equipment

All items will improve a horses performance to varying degrees or have no effect at all, albeit blinkers which can also have a detrimental effect on a horse.

Vitamins affect a horses fitness by 5% to 10% and could flip your horse over 100% reverting it back to 50%. Please consult the Equipment Shop for detailed information.

Buying & Selling in General

All horses originate from the Sales Ring, in addition to which you have the options of purchasing horses from fellow members via the Auctions or by Claiming a horse in Claiming races.

You can change your horse's name on its details page provided it does not have a race history. Please refer to the 'Naming Convention' section below.

All horses age on the 1st of April, August & December, ie. at the start of every season. Each racing season lasts 4 calendar months. Your horse's innate characteristics change as they mature between the ages of 2-3 & 3-4 but thereafter remain consistent until they turn 8. Gelded Colts are retired permanently when they turn 8yrs. Un-gelded colts & fillies remain in a 'limbo' status for possible breeding purposes. To avoid cluttering your stable, the details of your Retired / Limbo horses are not displayed through your stable or search functions.

Supplementary fees are once-off registration fees for your horse to compete in the lucrative Championship Series for the duration of its racing career. Your options include either an early US$2.00 through the Sales Ring or a late supplementary fee US$50.00 when nominating for the qualifiers. The star alongside a horses name indicates that the supplementary fee has been paid, adding value to the horse when selling it in Auctions or Claims.

The monthly stabling fee ensures your horse's upkeep and maintenance. Daily training sessions are included in its stabling. Stabling fees start at US$2.00 and can be discounted down to US$0.00, at a reduction of US$0.50 for every race it partakes in within its stabling period. Stabling fees are automatically deducted when due. If there are insufficient funds available the horses status becomes 'pending' and will be rejected from all upcoming races. The 'Automatic Stabling Fee Deduction' setting can be changed on the horse details page. Total stabling fees for your stable are capped at US$50.00 per calendar month.

The Naming Convention

Some rules apply when deciding on a name for your horse/s:

Name can not be more than 17 characters.
All new words after a space start with a capital, followed by lower case. Names like GrandGrand will automatically be changed to Grandgrand.
All words must start with a capital and cannot start with a digit eg 2000 year needs to be Year 2000.
A letter following a space may not be in lower case and will automatically be changed.
No more than 4 digits are allowed.
Digits must be consecutive e.g. Grand Wizzard 2000 but not Grand20Wizzard00
No swear words including Digiturf.com’s list of exclusion words and terms and conditions.
No special characters as per existing list: :;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~!”#$%&*+,-./
No 2 consecutive spaces, the name will automatically be updated.
Names can’t start or end with a space, the name will automatically be updated.
If brackets are used, they must be used at the end of a name, must include an open and closed bracket and must contain no more than 4 letters, all upper case. An open bracket cannot be in the first 3 characters. No numbers in brackets.
Bulk horse purchases:
- A random colour option has been added.
- Allows up to 12 characters (long stable names may be cut off if need be) so that a space and 4 digits can be added.
- Naming convention checks and changes are not applied here.
Horses that have never raced will be checked when being entered into a race. The same applies when entering into auctions. Any horses not meeting the naming convention requirements will need to be changed.

Sales Ring

The sales ring is comprised of 100,000 unique horses in terms of characteristics, preferences and ability. The sales ring is also non-sequential, meaning that there is no order in what may be acquired from the sales ring of the 100,000 pool of horses, in this sense making it random. Therefore you may purchase 100 horses and not get a ‘challenge contender’ or purchase one horse and it puts your stable into the Challenge series. The sales ring is further indifferent to who is purchasing from it and cannot be influenced by a stable, their previous purchases or by the site.

Purpose of One Year Old sales (available in last 2 weeks of season only) are to enable you to prepare horses ahead of the new season.
Racing, Claiming and Auctions are only available for horses aged 2-7 years.
Horses may change ability when ageing from 2yrs to 3yrs, and from 3yrs to 4yrs only.
Throughout its racing career, a horses preferences or characteristics (distance, going) do not change.

Note: It is common for some trainers to discredit the quality of horses being purchased from the sales ring. The benefit to them in doing so is to lead one to believe that you have better chances in purchasing a good horse from Auctions or Claimers, thereby providing an outlet for them sell their unwanted horses and to return to the sales ring. Of course all horses, including those in Auctions & Claimers, have originally come from the sales ring.

Claiming

You can Claim a horse that has been entered in a Claiming Race or conditioned Claimer by accessing this facility under the MARKET. A list of horses to claim will only be displayed here when a Claiming Race has closed for entries.

Where more than one member claims any one particular horse, the successful claim will be determined through a lucky draw.

The stabling subscription fee date is adjusted when the horse is transferred so that it will only be payable again 30 days after transfer.

The entire horse details history record of a Claimed horse is transferred to the new owner with the horse.

Auctions

Owners looking to fetch the best price for their horses can sell them through the Auction Ring to the highest bidder. Potential buyers also have the opportunity to inspect a horse’s form before bidding against other trainers for a particular horse.

Auctions are held twice monthly.

A buyer may change his bid anytime during an auction provided it is not lower than the Current Bid. Bidding closes 24 hours after the Auction Entry has closed except when a bid is placed in the last 2 (two) minutes – it then extends for an additional 2 minutes until no further bids are placed within the last 2 minute extension.

All financial auction related transactions are conducted through your wallet. If you are bidding on a horse the money will be deducted from the funds available in your wallet. Always ensure you have sufficient funds in your wallet otherwise your bids will be rejected. Funds can be transferred between your account balance and auction wallet.

Bid increments are scaled according to the current bid as follows:

Bids cannot be withdrawn, but your bid can be rejected if another stable places a higher bid.

Each horse gets sold "as is", with all its applied products, supplementary fee, fitness levels and earnings. For statistical purposes, the horse’s earnings and wins prior to sale remain attributed to the seller.

To enter a horse/s into Auction, simply tick the horses you wish to enter then choose to enter them either individually or as a Group. Then set the Reserve Price and add notes. Confirm your selection and pay the small auction entry fee through your basket. Auction entry fees are refunded for all horses that are sold.
Note: A horse may not be entered into a race whilst it is in an auction. Similarly, a horse may not be entered into an auction if it is entered for an upcoming race.

A 15% administration fee is deducted from the selling price for all sold horses.

The reserve price can be changed anytime during an auction before bidding closes. Notes can be changed provided no bids have been placed against that horse. Horses may be withdrawn provided no bids have been placed against that horse.

Mardi Gras Lucky Draw Winners

The Mardi Gras was one big holiday for everyone from Digiturf.com. It was filled with parades, picnics, and debutantes. Linda even bought herself a silk gown in the traditional purple, green and gold colors of the Mardi Gras, adorned with layers of local beads (and coconuts!) and had every intention of flashing innocent people in the streets of New Orleans. It turns out that the debutante ball committee were somewhat more reserved than what Linda anticipated. Some of the locals have sniffed at Linda’s efforts to be gatecrash their soirée, saying that the “Mardi Gras is actually a family event. It is not for drunks, and never has been and never will be!”

Six-times Championship Series winner, Tockyocky Racing, took time out of the saddle to be interviewed about his winning streak on Digiturf.com. In a few weeks we’re probably going to have to interview him again, but hopefully we’ll be interviewing you too after your Champion Series.

What sparked your interest in virtual horse racing?
I have always loved the thrill of horse racing since i was about 6 years old...I use to go down to the local track and stand at the finish line to watch the horses cross. One day I was resting after getting my wisdom tooth pulled and I came across the Digiturf site and had to join because I thought it was so cool.

What do you look forward to most when playing on virtual horse racing?
Mainly 3 things... 1. The feeling of training a horse for the first time wanting it to pop. 2. A big race 3. The interaction with others via traxide, forums, text or chat. We support each other and push for success.

How does playing on virtual horse racing compare to real horse racing?
There are some similarities mainly the build up to the race and the intensity of the actual race not knowing the outcome. Also race placement and the career path of the horses keeps you engaged.

Tell us about your first winner and your other top horses.
Well Toc Black Widow is my first and only winner...took down 2 titles last season. I thought Black Magic was gonna be the one to strike gold but it wasn't in the cards...not a very good feeling for sure. Maple Leaf Farms sent me a strong message via inbox after that race and it was kind of like a wake up call! Being new you don't realize how hard it actually is to win a Championship....there are many great stables that are without a title so I feel very fortunate. The best horse doesn't always win and you need to realize that quick. My top 4 horses from that season were Black Widow, Black Magic, Super Sadie (Near and dear to my heart) and Kill Switch.

Tell us about your best win and why it meant so much.
Best win is obviously Toc Black Widow's Double Championship last season. Not sure how often that is done but surely pretty cool. I really didn't expect the stayers title at 3200 since she was flipped after the classic and she raced unfit for the Stayers Title. Thankful for the good jock!

List some of your top achievements.
I prefer to not speak about my achievements...some folks may take it in the wrong way. I am happy about the progress I have made and thankful for the help and support received to this point.

What do you typically do before a big race?
I pace...and I pace some more lol! I get a few of the guys together in the warehouse and we stop production to watch the race. It's a lot of fun rooting the horses on and everyone in the building asks how the horses are doing by name.

Tell us about your most memorable moments on virtual horse racing.
Not sure if it was my best win but surely one that I will never forget was my first ever Qualifier win with Toc Kill Switch.....I can't even explain to you the feeling that day. Took on Jenna's Beach Boy, AP Cutthroat and a few others...very special and I will never forget.

What are your goals for your future racing on virtual horse racing?
Well the goal is to win..lol...no seriously umm continue to work on placement and profitability and my research on the 4-7 YO game. Plan for the end of season Championships and have some fun. Try to help the new stables as much as time will allow so we have an under current of future competitive stables.

What advice would you give to new virtual horse racing members?
Take it 1 step at a time and learn whatever you can. Every time you think you know it...you don't. As you acquire new valuable information apply it to your overall strategic plan. Make friends and treat others with respect. If you pull a beast...try to be humble. It's not a sprint it's a marathon and if done correctly this can also be profitable. Get involved on Traxide...good way to learn from some folks that will help....not gonna spill the good beans but you won't starve.

Name the best horse, in your opinion, belonging to a fellow member.
Well I am sure there are really good older horses I just don't know much about them but for the 2 seasons that I have been here I would say my favorite horse by far and maybe even over a few of my own is Roosters Rings by The Barbs. I love that horse!

What is your favorite real horse racing event?
Kentucky Derby by far

Are you involved in real horse racing and if so in what capacity?
Not at this time...we do have horses but mainly for dressage and hunter paces. I have been in talks with a trainer about purchasing my first one and might act on it sometime in 2012.

What are your goals for the future of your stable?
My main goal right now is to build a sustainable stable so I can compete in all age groups...there is a reason why the top stables stay on top. I am not just talking the top 3 stables but rather the top 10-15 that compete in all age groups. They put the work in and I would like to be able to compete with that group.

As in live racing there is an unpredictable element in every race where a horse (& even the jockey) doesn’t run perfectly to form. This is represented by the Random Factor.

Jockeys are determined in the following way:

The race generator randomly selects Jockeys per the number of horses in the race.

This lower Random Factor is represented by the game only utilizing the top 17 of the 34 Jockeys in the Championship Finals and Qualifiers.

Graded to be Eligible to Enter – A small change

A small change has/is being made to the game today which essentially prevents horses that have not yet been Graded from entering races.

A horse is Graded when it first reaches a fitness of 90% through training. Until now it was possible to enter an un-Graded horse into Grade 1 Low races, thereby running it unfit.

There are two main reasons that this was occurring, although rarely:
1) An owner purposely wants an exceptionally poor run to get a weight benefit in a subsequent Allowance race.
2) A newer player learning the game may mistakenly enter a new horse into a race unfit.

For such horses that are not yet Graded, you will now be given a ‘Train’ button in place of the option to enter on the race entry pages.

Go for Gold in the Hong Kong Classic

The Hong Kong Cup is a Group 1 flat horse race in Hong Kong which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 2000 metres (about 1¼ miles) at Sha Tin, and it is scheduled to take place each year.

The race was first run on January 24, 1988, and its distance was initially set at 1800 metres. The inaugural running was restricted to horses trained in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Added to this list for the following season were horses from Australia and New Zealand. The race was switched to December for its third running, therefore taking place twice within 1989. Horses trained in Europe were admitted in 1990, followed by those from the United States in 1991, and Canada and Japan in 1992. The distance was increased to its present length, 2,000 metres, in 1999. Also at this time the race was promoted to Group 1 status.

The Hong Kong Cup is one of the four Hong Kong International Races, and it presently offers a purse of HK$20,000,000 (approximately US$2.58 million).

Moletown taking a well-earned breather

After being with us for just over three years in which time he clocked up 771 competitive wins and bagged just over £25k in prize winnings the brilliant Lee from the Moletown stables is taking a well-earned rest from the game (hopefully just to re-charge the batteries). Lee has also penned some superb articles on the forums and over the years has developed excellent relationships with countless stables who have contributed to his pieces.

After making his decision to close the stable doors for a wee while he wrote “I have decided, due to time constraints, work, personal reasons and ill health, I need a break from this glorious game. It is with a heavy heart that I have come to this decision but I have to put family first. The one regret I have is that I do not have a shiny trophy against my name, not that I haven't tried...lol.”
He added “I will return in the future and of course, should I still have horses in my yard after this week’s auction. I love this game and it will be a difficult void to fill and that's why I am confident of a return.”

As for the upcoming sweepstakes competition (which Lee would normally run) – I’m not sure what’s happening with that but I’m sure Raceclubs will inform us in due course.

Auctions are held twice monthly.

All financial auction related transactions are conducted through your wallet. If you are bidding on a horse the money will be deducted from the funds available in your wallet. Always ensure you have sufficient funds in your wallet otherwise your bids will be rejected. Funds can be transferred between your account balance and auction wallet.

Bid increments are scaled according to the current bid as follows:

The Auction Recap

This past week’s auction was one of the largest in recent seasons. There were a total of 436 entries of colts and fillies that went to the auction ring looking for a new home. It was definitely a buyer’s market especially for those who might not have been very successful pulling from the sales ring. At final count 208 of the total entries found changed hands. This should help fill up fields in upcoming races.

The G1 group of horses was highlighted by Toc Ghenis Khan. This 4 year old colt out of the Reddave barn was coveted by a number of bidders including former owner Tockyocky however powerhouse Chrisman eventually won the final bid. The horse going for a whopping $3,925 dollars, now that’s no horse feed!

In addition, a number of other premium G1 horses will have new mailing addresses going forward including Don’t Stop Me Now, The Red Devil, Fourstardave, Jaime Lannister, and Meckwell. All of these entries went for over $1000 dollars a piece for final bid.

Totals for this group were 112 sold horses for $29,736.48 DOLLARS!

A quick look at the G2 showed that there was plenty of activity happening in the final hour of the auction. The top individual seller for this group was The Floozee from the Black Lotus Barn which moved to the Sunshine Barn for $92 dollars. Cayenne King got a nice group of stock from the quality barn of Tockyocky. Totals for this group were 73 sold horses for $2,172.27. Finally the G3 entries had good representation as well. The top seller in this group was Turner Farms’ Mick de Quick. The 3 year old colt moved to the Gibbonmania barn for a solid $58 dollars. In fact Gibbonmania got their Christmas shopping done early having bought eight of the 23 G3 horses sold in the auction. Reddeave dominated the number of horses sold in this group with 18! There were definitely a number of quality horses provided in this group. Totals for this group were 23 sold horses for $588.86.

For those of you new to the game remember the auction is a good opportunity to gain valuable information to be successful in the game. You can buy TTS of entries from experienced stables and gauge how good your stock is relatively. The auction and claiming races are great for this purpose.

As we all know there are no guarantees when buying from the ring or the auction. There are owners that might think there horses are worth more than the market dictates. And sometimes horses don’t pan out for new owners. As with many facets of this game you need a little luck to be successful.

Due to the high cost of investing in advertising on the Super Bowl, companies regularly develop their most expensive advertisements for this broadcast. As a result, watching and discussing the broadcast's commercials has become a significant aspect of the event.

In addition, many popular singers and musicians have performed during the event's pre-game and halftime ceremonies because of the exposure. This year, Madonna will be collaborating with Cirque du Solei to present a visual spectacle without any wardrobe malfunctions.

Take a Swing in the Australian Open Virtual Horse Races

The Australian Open is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments. It was held for the first time in 1905 and since 1972 it has been held in Melbourne, Victoria. The Australian Open was last contested on grass in 1987, before it was moved to its current location at Melbourne Park in 1988, becoming a hard court event. The tournament is held in Melbourne in the Australian summer, in the last fortnight of the month of January; an extreme-heat policy is put into play when temperatures reach dangerous levels.

The two main courts used in the tournament are Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena and feature retractable roofs, which are shut during rain or extreme heat. The Australian Open and Wimbledon are the only Grand Slam tournaments with indoor play. In 2008, the Rebound Ace surface, which had been in place for the past 20 years at Melbourne Park, was replaced by a cushioned, medium-paced, acrylic surface known as Plexicushion Prestige. Roger Federer and Serena Williams are the only players to win the Australian Open on both Rebound Ace and Plexicushion Prestige. The main benefits of the new surface are better consistency and less retention of heat because of a thinner top layer. This change was accompanied by changes in the surfaces of all lead-up tournaments to the Australian Open. The change was controversial because of the new surface's similarity to DecoTurf, the surface used by the US Open.

Like all other Grand Slam tournaments, there are men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's, and mixed doubles; and junior's, wheelchair, exhibition, and legends' competitions. The Australian Open typically has very high attendance, with the 2010 Australian Open achieving the highest ever single-day day/night attendance record for any Grand Slam tournament of 77,043 and an overall attendance of 653,860.

Championship Series Interview with Reddave

What did it feel like for you to win your Championship Series?
I was in shock. When i realised what happened, i did a few backflips. Then i thought, these things must be easy to win, i can't see what the problem is! lol I've since learnt, they are the hardest things to win, so enjoy everyone you get.

How optimistic were you about winning?
I didn't think i had a chance, but i got perfect distance and ground for the final, so i though i might have a slim chance. The rivals where Chrisman and Toc, I'd only played for a short time, but learnt quickly, they are hard to beat.

What routines do you follow before the race ?
i usually look through the field and pick out all the horses i think can beat me. Once i realise there are 13 horses better, i usually just hope the others fall over in the running. When i won the first 1 i shared it with a mate. This season was a lot better as i spent it with the good blokes at traxide for the 3 days, they helped me to understand the game more, and taught me patience (well they tried)So I think we all enjoyed it. Sorry lee lol

How do you prepare for a Championship Series & what advice would you give other trainers?
Trying to get the best horses i can into the finals to at least have a shot. You need to be in it to win it as Chrisman says. Hmm, advice? Well the first advice i'd give people is don't listen to me lol, get down to traxide and meet the guys down there, i owe a lot of what happened this season to them.

What would you do differently in future Championship Series?
Nothing, try and get more horses in and maybe take the shoes off the other trainers horses. Do you think they would mind?

How do you celebrate winning the Championship Series?
I celebrated with my mates at traxide, i spent a lot of the money buying horses for the following season.

Final Comments?
Enjoy every final, it doesn't matter if you win or lose. Being able to get horses in is the best feeling. If you can make the 14 horse final, then you've already won as the game is full of great stables all trying to do the same. I enjoyed watching the the greats and future greats of the game. I'm hoping Rusty Princess gets to the top, and would be happy to see Toc Black Magic somewhere on the hall of fame also. Both are great trainers and great horses

Which of your virtual horses will win US$400.00 in the Hong Kong Classic WFA?

Win US$400.00 in the Hong Kong Classic WFA

Originally a Group 3 race with the name Hong Kong Classic Trial, the Hong Kong Classic Mile was the traditional lead-up race for the Hong Kong Derby. Now, this race is carrying a Group 1 status since the 1999-2000 Hong Kong horse racing season. This race is held at the Sha Tin racecourse.

From then on, this 1600-metre horse race has become one of the most important Hong Kong classic races. The Hong Kong Classic Mile is usually held during the day with the Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby and it is open to four-year-old horses only.

In the past 5 years, trainers C. S. Shum and A. S. Cruz have dominated the competition achieved two wins and one third place finish each. During the same span, jockey Christophe Soumillon has landed one victory, one second place finish and one third place finish and jockey Douglas Whyte has one second place finish and two third-place finish.
The 2010 Hong Kong Classic Mile was won by Tony Cruz-trained Beauty Flash. The horse was brought to victory by Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon and he never looked gassed. He won the race three lengths in from of Chater Way which was ridden by Douglas Whyte coasting to the line with nearly three lengths to spare from Chater Way, ridden by champion jockey Douglas Whyte,

Craig Williams and Tuscan Spirit finished third, a half-length further back. Super Pistachio, Beauty Flash’s stable mate, came in fourth and the John Moore-trained Able Speed finished fifth. Beauty Flash is owned by Sa Sa cosmetic chain owner Mr. Kwok Siu-ming who invited Soumillon due to his experience with the big races.

Championship Series Interview with Chrisman!

What did it feel like for you to win your Championship Series?
It felt great. Macka Dub came up short of a check last season but came thru nicely this season. Also, the hard luck Lord Stark went out early and refuse to quit. I knew he had it in him but was still a bit surprise. Overall, it was exhilarating. Thanks to Digi and of course all the participating owners.

How optimistic were you about winning?
For the Triple Crown Classic, I thought I had a shot with a good trip. After The ground came up fast, my main concern was with AP Queen Of Pain (Karl Khoder) and Aleco (Cobarn) although Many of the entrants can hold their own. For the Triple Crown Stayers, I was a bit optimistic about winning with a good tip but had greater hope for Silver Sakura (2nd last season Juve) but Lord Stark rise to the occasion. I'm still feeling it!

What routines do you follow before the race?
I look over the competitions just to get a feel for my chances. I share a victory with family and friends.

What advice would you give other trainers?
I still prefer to keep preparation a trade secret but be patient and pay attention to the little details, like state of alums, blinks, fitness. These must be managed perfectly to ensure you best chance of winning. Wouldn't hurt to give Jack Ford's agent a call either.

What would you do differently in future Championship Series?
At this point. No changes. But the game evolves so I may need to make adjustment down the road.

How are you going to spend your winnings?
I will be using the champ winnings to pay for my new laptop (a monster machine), although I need some new horses.

Final Comments?
Great season...Congrats to all the winners and placers...
Black Lotus had a super series (4 winners) - special congrats man. Well deserved.
Nice going Filante with your two monsters. Great series Bigbob and a great double with Bob's Big Red. Bigup Maple Leaf Farms, Reddave and Paranoid (First Champ - wishing you many more). ...and of course Tuna (quiet giant) - great win.
