Digiturf.com Paul Feliciano said that riding Secretariat was like riding a finely tuned machine, he had so much power, wanted to run and knew when to run. Secretariat was the best horse he had ever been on in his life. What was the best horse you've even ridden or seen running?

Is the Secretariat Sundae a new horse flavored ice cream?

Yes it's true that can buy horse meat ice-cream, and apparently it's deliciously but we'll give it a miss.

horseflesh.jpg

But this is even sweeter ...

Digiturf is hosting a Secretariat Sundae this weekend in honour of this great Triple crown champion!

Secretariat was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, who became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years in 1973, setting new race records in two of the three events in the Series—the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24)—records that still stand today.

Secretariat is a 2010 American biographical film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Mayhem Pictures. Chronicling the life of Secretariat, the 1973 race horse winner of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Diane Lane portrays Secretariat's owner, Penny Chenery, and John Malkovich plays the part of Secretariat's trainer, Lucien Laurin. Filming took place on location in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and around Lafayette, Louisiana and Carencro, Louisiana.

Housewife and mother Penny Chenery (Diane Lane) agrees to take over her ailing father’s Virginia-based Meadow Stables, despite her lack of horse-racing knowledge. With the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), Chenery manages to navigate the male-dominated business, ultimately fostering the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and what may be the greatest racehorse of all time.

Secretariat was sired by Bold Ruler (a grandson of Nearco) and foaled to Somethingroyal. He was foaled at Meadow Farm inCaroline County, Virginia. Like the equally famous horse Man o' War, Secretariat was a large chestnut colt and was given the same nickname, "Big Red." Owned by Penny Chenery (aka Penny Tweedy), he was trained by Lucien Laurin and mainly ridden by fellow Canadian jockeyRon Turcotte, along with apprentice jockey Paul Feliciano (first two races), and veteran Eddie Maple (last race). He raced in Penny Chenery's Meadow Stable's blue and white checkered colors and his groom was Eddie Sweat. Secretariat stood approximately 16.2 hands (66 inches, 168 cm) tall, and weighed 1,175 pounds (533 kg), with a 75 inch girth, in his racing prime.

In celebration of Secretariat the horse, the movie and all things related to simulated virtual horse racing games, Digiturf.com has renamed and sponsored the following races for your entertainment this Sunday!

Digiturf.com is also giving away two Secretariat Sundae prizes.

The 2010 Breeders’ Cup championships is going online according to Edward Bell

The 2010 Breeders’ Cup Championships Is Going Online!

By Edward Bell

 Digiturf Logo

The 2010 Breeders’ Cup Championships at Churchill Downs is going online with live telecasts featuring all qualifying races leading into the Championships through ESPN, iPhone and even in real-time on Digiturf’s Traxide.

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships attracts some of the most exceptional thoroughbred racehorses from around the world; partly due to the multi-million sponsorships and also the prestige of racing over the same tracks as the legendary like Zenyatta, Conduit, Cigar, Curlin, Personal Ensign, and Sunday Silence. There’s a heritage associated with The Breeders’ Cup Championships that just cannot be bought at any price.

The 2010 Breeders’ Cup Championships is including every technology available to bring the races to a broader audience. ESPN will be feature all qualifying races on three different channels. The 2010 Breeders’ Cup will also unveil an application on the new iPhone that allows audiences to watch all the races for free. The 2010 Breeders’ Cup Championships will also be bringing the excitement of thoroughbred horse racing to an entirely new audience through social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and on YouTube.

The excitement surrounding the 2010 Breeders Cup Championships has even manifested itself online as a computer simulation, where real players from around the world will be racing their own CGI horses through simulated qualifiers to make it into their “Breeders’ Cup Championships” on the 6th November 2010.

“What next?” You might ask. They’re also playing for cash.

It sounds crazy but perhaps a simulated version of the Breeders Cup may be a viable alternative for horse racing enthusiasts who cannot afford their own thoroughbred race horse; and let’s not be bashful about this, because not everyone can afford their own race horse as easily as others. A simulated racehorse gives you all the pleasure of bonding with your own racehorse as you train it for championships without the nastiness of cleaning up after it.

This online community of horse racing enthusiasts has taken their passion for racing horses to another level by sponsoring their simulated with real cash. It’s an online community catering for serious horse racing enthusiasts and online gamers alike.  There is nothing childish about it as it’s geared for the serious pundit who thinks they’re ready for the responsibility of managing a real-life racehorse- without the nastiness if cleaning up after it.

Virtual horses don’t need to be fed and they can’t break their legs, so all you have to do is train them, equip them with shoes and maybe shoot them full of virtual vitamins before racing them. It’s great fun watching them racing against each other in realtime on Digiturf.com’s 3D Traxide raceviewer, especially when they‘re winning you money, and also because you’re really competing against live players from around the world rather than against ‘the house’ that has stacked all the odds in their favor.

If you ever wanted to race thoroughbred horses but lacked the necessary horses then Digiturf.com is probably what you’re looking for; and their upcoming Breeders’ Cup Championship is the ideal time to get involved while the your horses are still hot to trot online.

It's a red-letter day for favorite backers at the Arlington Gold Cup Qualifier.

With all the Queens that took to the track for the latest qualifying heats of the Arlington Gold Cup, you could be forgiven for expecting the race to be a bit of a drag but watching two of these older ladies battle it out proved to be great value entertainment.

Queen's Jewel Wins Digiturf Arlington Gold Cup Qualifier Fillies.

Worldwater Stables' Rusty Queen was certainly not short of work, having already amassed twenty-one starts this term and had been the model of consistency, winning three and finishing in the money a further fourteen times. Chrisman's Queen's Jewel had equally strong form credentials. The six year old mare had already bagged a Kentucky Fillies Classic Qualifier earlier in the season but perhaps the biggest indicator was her second place finish behind current Championship standings leader, Divine Liz, in her only previous attempt in anArlington Gold Cup Qualifier so far this term. The two mares showed a great deal of resilience to maintain their efforts all the way to the wire in this marathon event with the year older Queen's Jewel showing more sparkle and eventually prevailing by a half length. Rusty Queen lost nothing in defeat, achieving another fine second, suggesting she will make the final with every chance. Queen's Jewel's stablemate, Macka Beast stayed on well to take third while another worthy of note was Black Lotus' The Fame Monster who seemed to relish conditions but did not get the best of luck in running and is surely capable of better.

A second instance of this race surprisingly featured Divine Liz. Perhaps conditions were less than ideal for her here but owner, Tri M Fent Stables chose to run her in this instance while stablemate Ferocious Liz took part in the first. Nonetheless, Divine Liz was a warm order here and did not disappoint her supporters. The seven year old bay mare readily accounted for Chrisman's Salty Girl with Mudflaps' Ashley's Tsunami back in third spot.

This was Divine Liz's second win from three attempts in qualifying heats for the final of this event, enough to see her at the head of the current standings on twenty-six points, three ahead of both Queen's Jewel and Karl Khoder's Queen Gaga who are tied for second.

Rapscallion wins Digiturf Arlington Gold Cup Qualifier Colts.

It was a red-letter day for favorite backers which had begun half an hour earlier in the Arlington Gold Cup Qualifier 4-7yo Colts with Mudflaps' gray gelding, Rapscallion. The six year old, who finished fourth in the final of this event last term and had already netted two qualifiers for this event this time around, has been in fine form of late. He came here looking to complete a three-timer and duly obliged. He just got home, narrowly ahead of Black Lotus' Ice Dragon who forced him to pull out all the stops. Owner, Chrisman, is hard to keep out of the frame in these events these days filled third place with his six year old, Ap Terminator

This win sees Rapscallion jump to the top of the current standings for November's final, leap-frogging Ap Terminator who drops back to second, two points adrift of the new leader. Ap Terminator's stablemate, Quiet Messiah is a further six points behind in third.

Barnes reviews how the Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Fillies featured some fresh runners competing for Championship glory! interesting, lightly raced types

There was a pretty expensive bunch of horses that went to post for the latest running of the Digiturf Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Colts with Maple Leaf Farms' Purple Velvet being the only homebred on show. All other participants in this heat had recently gone under the auctioneer's hammer, achieving price tags ranging from $225 for Bigbob's Bob's Gun Bow to a whopping $1999 for Cepat Kaya's Purple Chip.

Simply Spiteful Wins Digiturf Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Colts.

Purple Chip was having his third outing in a qualifier since changing hands in late September. His two previous efforts in this ownership both resulted in fourth place finishers but he had managed to win one of these events while still in the care of Worldwater Stables. Cepat Kaya's other competitor for this event, Ap Cyclone, had only once finished out of the frame in ten career starts but although he had amassed four wins he had yet to achieve better than a third place finish from three atempts in this grade.

Simply Spiteful was a relative snip at a shade under $600 and had already achieved a win and two placed efforts in sprint qualifiers to demonstrate what a shrewd purchase owner Black Lotus had made when snapping him up with just a maiden victory under his belt. He was to add to that tally here by grabbing the lion's share of this $200 added-to-stakes purse. The bay colt just managed to prevail narrowly at the wire, a head to the good, as Cepat Kaya's Ap Cyclone ran out of puff. Cepat Kaya's other runner, Purple Chip, finished third.

Current leader of the standings for November's final is Pokerstars' triple sprint qualifier winner, Sultan Of Swings but Simply Spiteful now moves within four points of the pacemaker with this victory. Diamond Crown sits one point behind in third spot. Cepat Kaya's pairing are holding fifth and sixth.

Filly The Kid Wins Digiturf Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Fillies.

The Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Fillies featured some interesting, lightly raced types, particularly the Tuna Stables' trained Zarzuela. With just five runs to her name coming into this contest she had already demonstrated a highly promising level of form. As well as her two opening victories, she had gone on to finish third to Pool Party in a similar event to this and then last time out finished second to Bob's Beauty in another sprint qualifier over the minimum distance. She was somewhat unlucky in running that day and gave the impression a win in this grade was well within her compass.

In opposition today though was The Barbs' Filly The Kid. This gray had some equally strong form claims, having already won a sprint qualifier and finished second to Bank Note in another, from a total of four attempts so far in this grade. The finish turned out to be a tight battle between this talented pair with Filly The Kid prevailing on this occasion by a neck, the pair comfortably holding sway over third placed Dream Rider, owned by Captinj.

Caballo De Oro, who finished fifth here, still retains the lead in the overall standings but the pack are begin to close in. Filly The Kid has now moved into second, nine points off the lead. Filante Stables' Pool Party and Cepat Kaya's Miss Independence share third spot, a further six points behind.

Barnes reviews how Commander took control of the Juvenile Stayers Championships @Digiturf.com

Commander Takes Control Of Juvenile Stayers

The billing for the latest Juvenile Stayers Qualifier Colts would have you believe the race would be another grudge match showdown between virtual equine giants Dakota Celery and Rule The Air. The result would tell a different story. There is a new boy in town and he goes by the name of Commander Legend.

Commander Legend wins Juvenile Stayers Qualifier Colts.

Dakota Celery and Rule The Air need little introduction. Inx's Dakota Celery is the winner of eight of his twenty-five graded race starts including no less than five qualifier events over both classic and stayer distances although his very best form has been shown on the dirt and this was a turf event today. Karl Khoder's Rule The Air has won three of his eighteen starts, two of them classic qualifiers and has also finished either second or third in each of his last three runs - all qualifiers over both classic and stayers distances. These would be tough nuts to crack.

Sunny Future's Commander Legend by contrast had relatively little form in the book, at least in this grade, his only win to date from ten career graded starts coming in a Jump Starter Maiden Juvenile. This would be his first attempt in a qualifier. This would not stop the bay colt from a determined winning performance, though it might be unwise to take this form literally at face value. There was a lot to like about the style of Commander Legend's victory but there is no doubt that jockey Jack Ford played a large part in getting the colt home with his head in front. Rule The Air this time managed to get the better of his old adversary Dakota Celery in a tussle for second and third.

The latest standings still show a healthy twelve point lead for Dakota Celery ahead of Rule The Air who in turn is twelve points ahead of the chasing pack. Sunny Future's $121 auction bargain buy, Commander Legend scores nine points for his win here.

The fillies' equivalent of this race saw Filante Stables' Big Samantha achieve a narrow success over Cepat Kaya's My Little Diva. The well-supported Tasered owned by Mudflaps edged Dakota Princess for third spot. This allowed My Little Diva to take over at the top of the current standings on twenty points, just one ahead of Tasered. Big Samantha edges closer to the lead, well in touch in fifth.

Sultan Of Swings wins Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Colts.

One day earlier and we were presented with an opportunity to see how the juvenile sprinters have been progressing. The colts' event currently appears to have two standout contenders for the Championship Series crown in the shape of Pokerstars' Sultan Of Swings and Paris House's Mischief Managed and they were set to clash here. Mischief Managed has proved very consistant at the highest level, placing in three of his last four efforts in qualifiers. Sultan Of Swings had even stronger claims and was coming into the race having won both his most recent starts in sprint qualifiers. True to form, it was Pokerstars' bay who completed a hat-trick, muscling out his chief rival into second by a half length. Karl Khoder's Diamond Crown took third.

Filante Stables' Pool Party had started to look a touch overpriced when she could manage only a fifth of six behind Bank Note but since then the filly had gone from strength to strength winning three of her last four starts, including two qualifiers and finishing second in the other. She comfortably dismissed Caballo De Oro here who up until now was the most likely favorite for the final of this event in November. Tuna Stables' previously unbeaten Zarzuela finished third and may yet be capable of better.

The standings now have Sultan Of Swings leading Mischief Managed by a single point in the colts' event while in the fillies equivalent, Pool Party moves into fifth place behind current clear leader, Caballo De Oro.

The Queen of virtual horse racing has made history so many times that even historians anticipate her future races; and she is on the threshold of making history again as she is expected to win her 9,000th race on Digiturf.com this week.

Samster has enjoyed unparalleled success on Digiturf.com, she has participated in 50,800 virtual races, won over $615,000.00 (US) and she has collected over 22 championship trophies; but her biggest accomplishment to date was winning the Virtual Triple Crown of Virtual Horse Racing. The Samster stable is held in the highest regard not only for its stature in the virtual horse racing community but also for the dignity in which it conducts itself.

Samster's stable was not an immediate success when she joined the virtual horse racing community in February 2003 through ESPN; her stable was an unassuming one that seemed to produce more donkeys than thoroughbreds - but Samster said she would rather get mad than quit so she studied every aspect of the game. One of her best decisions was to concentrate on racing fillies rather than colts; Samster started racing fillies with such success that she was lauded as the First Lady of virtual horse racing.

Anyone can be successful in virtual horse racing if they apply themselves because ultimately even at its most simplest level it is really a game of skill. You can even make a lot of money on Digiturf.com because in addition to the stakes that can be won, Digiturf.com adds over $900,000.00 (US) in sponsorships to the annual race program. No previous horse racing experience is necessary because the site offers a comprehensive help section and personalized support that will take you from rookie to champion in the time it takes to saddle your horses. Samster has credited the help section with being one of her first steps to victory -- but she is also a big fan of the sponsored Grade 1 races.

The only Triple Crown Winner in the history of Digiturf.com earned over US$18,700.

Horse racing enthusiasts are initially attracted to the sponsorships -- and obviously winning money is big on Digiturf.com, but there is an unspoken rule between players that you need to win a Championship Series title to establish yourself as a master of the game. The Championship Series on Digiturf.com is huge: three days of non-stop virtual racing over eighteen tracks with countless consolation races - and it is worth over worth over $100,000.00 (US). It is extremely competitive to say the least, and it is not for the faint hearted.

Samster approaches a challenge like a predator stalks its prey: methodically. But there was one obstacle between her and her first championship trophy: her best filly, Annie's Dangerous, had previously displayed incredible potential in her Qualifiers as a juvenile but nothing that translated well in the Championship Series Finals - but Samster persisted with Annie's Dangerous. She was able to qualify for all the Triple Crown Championship races.

The Triple Crown Championships are the ultimate races for any horse owner. Winning one Triple Crown Championship is an accomplishment within its own right, but winning all three championships over consecutive days is virtually impossible, even in virtual racing. A Triple Crown victory almost implies that you descended from royalty, and possibly even the gods, because winning a Triple Crown is about as easy as trying to bottle lightning.

On November 27, 2003, Annie's Dangerous won her first championship title in the Triple Crown Sprint Championship. The following day she won the Triple Crown Classic Championship. Unbelievably, on the third day Annie's Dangerous won the Triple Crown Stayers Championship to rapturous applause as she became the first winner of the Virtual Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. It was a phenomenal accomplishment that has never been repeated; neither online at Digiturf.com nor in in real-life horse racing when Nijinsky won the Triple Crown in 1970.

Virtual horse racing fever captured the world's imagination. Even Bill Finley from NY Times expressed his disbelief that a virtual horse could earn US$6,000.00 when he interviewed Samster on Sirius XM Radio. Ever gracious, the Queen of virtual horse racing corrected Bill, confirming that while Annie's Dangerous had won $6,000.00 (US) in Digiturf.com's Triple Crown Championships -- her filly had actually won close to $20,000.00 (US) before she was retired from active racing. Samster even convinced the esteemed Bill Finley to try his hand at virtual horse racing. Ironically, despite her incredible achievements on Digiturf.com, Samster admits she still loves winning the small races as much as she does the big ones.

Samster is expected to win her 9,000th race on Digiturf.com within the next 24 hours- now that is something to get excited about.
