ESPN.com provides comprehensive sports coverage to a large network of sporting enthusiasts; so it was a great honor when they announced how much they love virtual horse racing on Digiturf.
ESPN: Why we love virtual horse racing
Online virtual horse racing has become one of the fastest growing hobbies on the internet. You might dismiss it as a new trend, but then you wouldn't know it has been on an upward trend for the last ten years at Digiturf. In fact, virtual horse racing is getting bigger and better - and the sponsorships too! For the uninitiated: virtual horse racing is a simulation game where you can race your own computerized horses online against other people who share a similar interest in horse racing like yourself. Unlike most computer games that you play alone and eventually beat the system, online racing at Digiturf requires you to compete against other players from around the world to become the best horse trainer in the land of virtual horse racing. Thanks to the internet you never have to leave the comfort of your armchair to train or race thoroughbred race horses. Virtual horse racing goes beyond convenient. You can play it wherever and whenever you like, you can chat with other trainers around the world while you wait to watch your races - and you can even call out for pizza delivery. This is your opportunity to own a virtual horse that you will train for competitive racing against other players' horses to win real money. Those online races make for addictive viewing as they can get quite competitive, especially when the stakes are high or the races are sponsored. It's great to watch the races in real time live, but all races are archived on Digiturf so you can watch them anytime. Even more exciting -- you get to watch them in 3D! Great training makes for great racing but if your horse "underperforms" you can improve its competitive edge by gelding it or giving it a shot of performance enhancing vitamins or Fillies Fuel from Digiturf's Tack Shop. The Tack Shop even sells state of the art horse shoes (not the heavy steel ones) and blinkers. You can even get yourself a set of racing silks so that when you win your races you win them in style! It's the competitive nature of virtual horse racing that makes Digiturf so much fun - but if you prefer to play for cash then you should ask the other players about the player who became a real life millionaire racing virtual horses. Digiturf gives all new players a free horse which can be raced in unlimited free races … Are you ready to try virtual horse racing for yourself?

To be completely happy again. Are you a good cook / what’s your favorite meal / drink?

Where you are from & what do you do?
I am originally from a city called St. Catharines, in Canada. I am currently living in the U.S. where I own my own consulting company. How do you enjoy spending your leisure time?
Being Canadian, I am a hockey player and fan. In Canada, when toddlers first learn to walk in hard-soled shoes, their fathers put steel blades on the bottom of their shoes and push them onto the frozen pond. So, it's all about hockey. I'm into many other sports - I play tennis regularly year-round and golf in the summer. While I am at home, it is all about food and wine. Every night is a big meal and a little (OK, a lot) of wine. What’s your favorite time of day / year?
I love Spring. The season brings a new feeling of hope and optimism. And green grass. And hockey playoffs. What’s your happiest memory?
Growing up with my two brothers. We did everything together. We played street hockey almost every day. Rode our bikes all over our small world. We were typical kids, playing every sport - football, baseball, tennis - outside with neighbourhood kids. We learned how to build things and then how to blow them up or set them on fire. We learned how to find weird bugs or creatures, how to keep them and in some cases, how to kill them in interesting ways. Every day was an adventure. Just a bunch of young boys - more mischevious than anything else. What is your biggest dream?
Becoming a significant philanthropist. Are you a good cook / what’s your favorite meal / drink?
My family and I are BIG into food and wine. So each meal is a production. I was born to two immigrant Italians, so a lot has to do with an Italian upbringing. In our culture, a 3-hour meal is normal and 7-11 courses of food is simply a nice meal. I cook a lot and once, I won a cooking competition where all contestants had to create an original recipe, submit it and then the finalists were selected to actually cook it at a restuarant for a panel of judges. My recipe was a pasta dish with morel mushrooms, thyme chicken in a wine-cream sauce. My favorite drink is Crown Royal. At family gatherings, once a bottle is opened, we throw out the cap. In my family, we refer to it as "Mother's Milk". What’s your favorite color / item of clothing?
My favorite item of clothing is a Montreal Canadians jersey. They're my favorite hockey team in the NHL and I bleed their colours: "bleu, blanc et rouge". What was your favorite subject in school?
I always liked numbers, but only when it made sense to me in purpose. So I loved Macroeconomics and Statistics. In fact, Statistics class in University - I took three years of it - didn't get me excited until the professor used his first gambling example. Then it hit me: "Ahhh, now this is omething I can use!" What’s your favorite horse racing event?
The Kentucky Derby. I've been there 7 times. My buddy Woodrow (who owns Team Slacker here at Digiturf)and I made annual trips there. Churchill Downs is amazing. Oh sure, it's just another track. But the first time you see the twin spires and walk through there - it gives you chills. And of course, hammering back 16 Mint Juleps on a hot Kentucky afternoon....well it's memorable for a while. Then you can't remember. I have never missed betting on a Derby since I began gambling on horse racing when I was 17. (A couple of us would skip afternoon classes at High School to drive to Fort Erie race track)
King Rusty's consolation prepares Maple Leaf Farms for the Championships What’s your favorite historical event?
Over the past few years, I've become engrossed in WWII. Reading and watching about the strategy, the politics, the heroism of young men. It's an amazing period that affected so much of our world. What’s your best tip for saving the environment?
I don't know - Wash your hands after going to the bathroom. I recycle and do plenty of other things, but I'm not one to push behavior changes on to people who don't want them. What’s your favorite song / book / television show / movie?
Movie: The Godfather, The English Patient TV Show: Seinfeld, Family Guy, Modern Family Song: anything by The Killers Book: The Business of Winning Are you superstitious?
Yes. I am a hockey player. Almost every hockey player I've ever played with is to some degree. I have some odd habits. Equipment always goes on in the same order. If I have a great game, then my undershirt cannot be washed (don't want to wash away any of the luck). Gross, I know. Lucky for the guys in the locker room, I have a lot of bad games. Who's your favorite entertainer?
I would watch anything that Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro are in. (See my favorite movie reference) I love Kate Winslett. Yes, I love her. And yes, if she asked, I would leave my wife to marry her. OK, maybe not. Nah, who am I kidding, yes I would.

Meeting my wife. What is your biggest dream?
Owning the Ritz Carlton in downtown LA. Are you a good cook / what’s your favorite meal / drink?

Valentine's Day Races
Valentine's Day was a day for secret admirers to shower their loves with tokens of their affection but unfortunately its present day existence is yet another classic example of how corporate greed can generate huge profits through mindless sentimentalism re-packaged in shiny paper with an overpriced card attached.
Even the RP admitted that he wished he had thought about it first because nothing tells your wife that you love her more than a virtual horse with her name on it. Chocolate makes her fat, champagne turns her into a drunk but a virtual horse would keep her svelte and trim - and when she wins the big stakes you know you'll enjoy in the spoils. This is where we tell you the Valentine's WFA is the perfect race to express your love for all and sundry and enter your best *yawn* but we won't, because you've heard it all before! This Valentine's Day where we get realistic about relationships, love and horse racing: because it's all about compromise and allowances... So, these are your Valentine's Day races, from us to you with love - and no strings attached or shiny paper! All you have to do is decide what kind of lover you are, enter your designated races and see what you win!
Are you a Grade 1 lover?
You coax the best performance out of your horses through competitive training sessions, which leaves you wanting more. You don't care if it's yielding, fast or muddy so long as it's a high-stakes race with an appreciative audience throwing extra cash at your feet while applauding your endurance, stamina and speed.
PS: There's an extra US$700.00 in added sponsorship on the Grade 1 races! Enter the Grade 1 Valentine's Races
Are you a Grade 2 lover?
You're no Casanova but you make out okay. While you aren't going to wine and dine someone to the ends of the earth just to get in the saddle, you know you're competent enough to finish the distance even if no one is going to be boasting about it in the morning… although it would be nice if someone mentioned how well you did occasionally.
PS: There's a mention for all G2 Valentines Allowance race runners. In scarlet letters!Enter the Grade 2 Valentine's Races
Are you a Grade 3 lover?
Oh cruel fate, how can you live down the ignominy when there aren't even allowances for the Grade 3 lover? That's because you're the one getting the allowance. If you want to celebrate the romance of Valentine's, you just have to admit you sometimes pay for it.
PS: There's no harm at looking for a Valentine in a $5 Claimer!
Enter the Grade 3 Valentine's Races
Are you always last to get a Valentine?
No matter what kind of lover you are - you can WIN a free horse!
Forget the strawberries, oysters, champagne, chocolates, roses and classifieds this Valentine's Day. The race programmer is giving away free horses to every trainer who gets the 14th draw in each of the Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 Valentine's Day Races.
It's as simple as that. Secure a spot in any of the Valentine's Day races and if your horse leaves the 14th starting gate, you will be the proud owner of a brand new horse!
PS: There's even a horse for the second instance. Now that takes some doing - if you know what we mean!
PPS: The more races you enter, the more chances you have to win!
Digiturf.com has put a fun digital twist on Valentine's Day. They realize that Valentine's Day has become an extortionate moneymaking opportunity, which obliges people to spend money they can't afford, to prove they still love the one person who married them for richer or poorer. Digiturf.com maintains that real love doesn't require expensive gifts, public displays of affection and it certainly doesn't need to be put down in writing on an overpriced card. Mature love is about acceptance, compromise and generous allowances -- and that's exactly what Digiturf.com has done.
In a cheeky twist of virtual horse racing humor, Digiturf.com's Race Programmer scheduled a slew of sponsored Valentine's Day races. The irony being that they were all Allowance Races. These races cater for all the horses that have won in races but also lost in races. These races are for the horse that got away but didn't go all the way … if you know what we mean.
These are good horses that deserve a second chance in love, life and races. These are horses that probably make you feel a bit nostalgic about some of the ones you let get away. Or worse, the ones that made a conscious decision to let you go!
Ultimately, everyone deserves a second chance and Digiturf.com's Valentine's Day Allowance Races provides just that for everyone who has ever lost in love or lost a race. Those races are worth more than $2,200.00 (U.S.)and in the spirit of romance Digiturf.comis giving free horses to everyone who draws the 14th gate in their Valentine's Day races.
If you join Digiturf.com before Valentine's Day you even get a free horse. Now that sounds like a great Valentine's Day gift for anyone, because nothing says, "I love you!" better than a horse named in your honor.
Digiturf.com is also playing matchmaker; if you're not sure where your horses like to race you can check their playful guide which determines if you are a Grade 1 lover, a Grade 2 lover - or worse, a Grade 3 lover. It doesn't matter what kind of lover you are because this Valentine's Day you know you're at least getting a free horse from Digiturf.com.
Feel the love this February 14th with Digiturf.com's Valentine's Day Racing.

With all the discussion around the Krypton Incident, I've been thinking about the nature of the auction transaction. We're completely naked in the Auction Ring. There is NOTHING to protect us. We are forced to trust each other. The fact is: Everybody who sells something is a salesman. But not every salesman lies or misleads. For me what matters most is: What kind of a person is the seller? I have been buying horses in auctions for many months now. Spent my fair share, for sure. And for the most part, I have received the exact horse that I believed I was buying. The tt's were exactly what was quoted in emails. (I miss Trezza) The potential of the horse was in the ballpark of what was advertised. In all cases, I had to do a ton of homework and due diligence before making the buy decision. But on two occassions, I thought I was burned. When I got the horse into my barn, I saw it wasn't what I thought it was. And I objected to the sellers. I thought I was sold something different than what I was buying. The reason I share this with all of you is this - - What happened AFTER I objected to the sellers is what makes the Digi community strong. In both cases, the seller offered to buy the horse back IMMEDIATELY. No debate. No questions. In one of those cases, Whymea Farms and I had a miscommunication over tt's and horse names. In the other, I believed a horse from Worldwater Stables had a worse age change than the seller stated. In BOTH of those cases, they were honest mistakes - buyer and seller. However, both Frank and Ron immediately offered to buy the horses back - AND pay the Digi premium on top of it. No debate. No questions. I respect them both for that. It's that kind of sportsmanship that we need. In an auction, we depend upon pure trust, honesty and integrity. We need more owners like those two guys, in my opinion. We might argue with their salesmanship or their sales approach, but we should also be looking further - to the person. We should all remember the golden rule when we participate in auctions - treat others in the way that we would like to be treated. So in the future, man up and do it right, folks. No BS. There was only one Secret Dom or one Golden Lineage. If yours isn't, then don't pretend it is. Either inbox exact tt's or don't brag about them. If you have no experience, then don't try to say what is or isn't Conso/Champ material based upon some chart. Auctioning an unraced horse in order to get 0.20 per tt click is lame. Taking shots at other horses or stables in your descriptions is unprofessional. Sell your horse on its own merits...Its own race record...Its own tt's. No BS. And stand behind your sale, like a sportsman. As the Krypton Incident proved, we need more of sportsmen around here. And now, I'm done being an adult .... I'm going to get a drink.
