Do members lie about their age in virtual horse racing?

Do members lie about their age in virtual horse racing?

Some members open multiple stables, even though it is illegal, while others lie about their age, which is less illegal, but what does one do when members demand recognition for their advancing years and continued participation in the virtual horse racing community on Digiturf.com? Here's my response to a certain member who needs no introduction to regular Digiturfers.

Dear Members,

I have forwarded your details to the department responsible for investigating multiple stables, they will force you to return back to your original stable and close down all of the other stables you've opened. Thereafter, they will send you the remaining slices of last year's Christmas cake for you enjoy. As a special bonus, when you hit your 100th birthday we'll instruct Liz II to send you a birthday telegram.

BTW: We're glad you've been around for so long and wish you even more success in the next 9 years!

I hasten to add most trainers lie about their birthdays with more conviction than Zsa Zsa Gabor, or if their registration pages are correct, they were born on the 1 January 1920 before drop-down filters were introduced to the internet. Maybe we should celebrate the day everyone joined Digiturf.com because unlike one's age one cannot lie about the day they became a member of the virtual horse racing community- and that day really is worth celebrating!

Considering that a certain is celebrating his 12th anniversary this month, which is traditionally celebrated with silk, Digiturf.com has pimped the lovely Ms. Linda Fitzgerald into one of our member's finest silks which she will be wearing today in one of his races.

Edward

Chrisman Crushes The Opposition With Priscus Of Rome!

In virtual horse racing terms, the name Chrisman is legendary. With more than two hundred qualifier wins and twenty-two championship races won, few can match his achievements and skills in virtual equine management. Despite this impressive resume, Chrisman had yet to bring out the best in his $1799 auction purchase, Priscus Of Rome. Until now that is.

Priscus Of Rome wins Triple Crown Classic Qualifier.

Last season's Juvenile Stayers Championship winner and Juvenile Classic Championship runner-up, Priscus Of Rome, won sixteen starts in all for a previous owner but had managed only a single victory in a small WFA from six attempts so far under Chrisman's guidance, a fourth place his best effort in four qualifiers to date. That certainly doesn't tell the full story, however. Priscus Of Rome has performed with merit, often without the breaks going his way, most notably when finishing sixth in a Triple Crown Stayers event under Ted Reynolds.

Saturday's Triple Crown Classic Qualifier was over 2400m, probably close to Priscus Of Rome's optimum trip but it was certainly not a soft option with top caliber horses such as Worldwater Stables' dual Triple Crown Qualifier winner, Secret Smash and Doc Mdterps' Triple Crown Classic Qualifier winner, Cryptic Oath in opposition. Priscus Of Rome made no mistake on this occasion however and he ran out a cosy winner under Claude Virenque. He was too much for Evil Racing Ltd's Count De Money, even with top jockey Jack Ford in the saddle but he ran on to take second. Sunny Future's Silent And Deadly finished third.

The fillies' equivalent of this race saw Evil Racing Ltd go one place better with Countess Bathory taking top honors. Chrisman was again on the premises, this time finishing second with Beyond Petroleum. Jekegr Stables' consistent filly, West Of The Pecos took third.

The standings for the colts final now show Priscus Of Rome tied at the head of affairs with Cryptic Oath who finished down the field here, as did Secret Smash who is still only two points off the lead in third spot. In the fillies' standings, Countess Bathory moves into second place, three points behind the leader, Spectacular Liz but one point ahead of both Mass Deception and Domination's End who are tied in third.

Purple King wins Saratoga Sprint Qualifier 4-7yo Colts.

Just half an hour later and Chrisman completed a notable double in the Saratoga Sprint Qualifier 4-7yo Colts when prolific winner Purple King just got the better of a tight finish with Tri M Fent's Irish Cream. Karl Khoder's Secret Legend was best of the rest in third.

Chrisman almost managed to pull off a qualifier treble in the fillies' race but was denied as, in the end, his Roosters Tango had to give best to Samster's Annie's Nemesis. The five year old chestnut mare ultimately won a shade cosily with Jack Ford taking the ride.

Irish Cream is now eight points clear at the top of the colts' standings. Purple King is now tied with Secret Legend for second place with Black Lotus' King Domination a further three points behind in fourth. The standings for the fillies' equivalent show Roosters Tango a full ten points ahead of closest pursuer, Maico, owned by Cmr Racing. Annie's Nemesis scores eleven points for her win here in what was her first qualifying run.

Sultan Of Swings leads standings following his Juvenile Sprint Qualifier success!

Sultan Sails To Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Success

An intriguing collection of virtual equine talent went on display for the latest round of the Juvenile Sprint Qualifiers at Digiturf, looking to enhance their reputations as potential future stars of the world's number one virtual racetrack and significantly fatten their owners' wallets in the process.

Sultan Of Swings wins Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Colts.

The colts were first to post and they were headed by Paris House's Mischief Managed, winner of three races and never out of the money in ten career starts to date, including a third place finish in a similar event three weeks ago. The winner on that occasion and reopposing today was Worldwater Stables' Purple Chip. The chestnut colt boasted an even more impressive record, winning four of his eight starts, including that qualifier and had been placed in each of his other four. Splitting the pair that day was Pokerstars' Sultan Of Swings. He finished fifth in a maiden on his first start but had gone from strength to strength ever since and his owner must have been hopeful he might be able to reverse that form with Purple Chip. That had been Sultan Of Swings' only attempt so far at this level and it was interesting that his owner chose to enter him today with conditions identical to the last time. Adding even more interest to the puzzle was the entry of once-raced Starman (JAP), owned by Cepat Kaya. The gray colt was a comfortable winner of a decent looking maiden first time out and his owner has invested enough cash at recent auctions to know what it takes.

The outcome was a fourth victory for Pokerstars' Sultan Of Swings, ridden today by Claude Virenque. He had too much speed for Mischief Managed, even allowing for the most capable handling of Jack Ford. Bigbob's Bob's Gun Bow took third place without looking like he could trouble the front pair.

Sultan Of Swings now heads the standings for November's end of season final, two points ahead of Mischief Managed. One point further behind, third place is tied between Purple Chip and Karl Khoder's Diamond Crown.

Caballo De Oro wins Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Fillies.

In the Juvenile Sprint Qualifier Fillies, two fillies looked stand head and shoulders above the rest according to the form book, Cmr Racing's Caballo De Oro and Maradona Racing's Miss Friday. Caballo De Oro was looking to go one better having finished second (twice), third and fourth in only four attempts in previous qualifiers, over a range of distances from 1200m to the maximum 32oom. Miss Friday loves the mud and had won three of her six starts when the surface was muddy (like it was for this event) including when winning a qualifier three weeks earlier, on her only previous attempt at this level.

These two did indeed battle out the finish and on this occasion it was Caballo De Oro who came out on top, with a little more than half a length in hand at the wire. Miss Friday acquitted herself well here and while this was on her favored ground, there is reason to believe she could reverse placings in the future under similar conditions. Owner, Bigbob ran three in the race and it was one of his trio, Bob's Cinteelo who took third spot.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, at this early stage, Caballo De Oro heads the current standings for this category, seven points ahead of rival, Miss Friday.

Worldwater Stables hoping to notch a double Triple Crown Stayers with Domination's End in the qualifiers!

Worldwater's Smashing Triple Crown Results

I was surprised to see Worldwater Stables put Priscus Of Rome up for sale in a recent Digiturf auction. It's only when you realize what he has left in the stable that you begin to understand how it is he is able to part with such a talented colt. Of course, I'm sure the $1799 he fetched will have helped to ease the loss considerably too.

Secret Smash wins Triple Crown Stayers Qualifier 3yo Colts.

Last season's Juvenile Stayers Championship winner, Priscus Of Rome was in the line-up for the latest Triple Crown Stayers Qualifier, bidding to recoup some of that price tag for new owner Chrisman. Pitted against him was Secret Smash, his former stablemate, still in training with Worldwater Stables. Secret Smash, already a winner of a similar event earlier this season was looking to rack up his tenth career victory. Maple Leaf Farms' consistent colt, Great White North, was just one of a number of others that gave this race a highly competitive feel.

It was Great White North who, in the end, gave Secret Smash most to do. Khaled Azzam's mount almost stole the show but Secret Smash ultimately ran out a half length winner. Sunny Future's Silent And Deadly produced a seasonal best effort to take third place. Priscus Of Rome found plenty of trouble for himself and did well under the circumstances to finish sixth. He might well pick up one of these events before too long.

Great White North now heads the standings on twenty-seven points, six ahead of Priscus Of Rome. Secret Smash who was having his first qualifying run for this event here, scores twelve.

West Of The Pecos wins Triple Crown Stayers Qualifier 3yo Fillies.

Worldwater Stables was no doubt hoping to notch up a quick double when his Domination's End lined up for the Triple Crown Stayers Qualifier 3yo Fillies. The gray filly has been ultra-consistent so far this term, finishing out of the money only twice in eight starts but had yet to net a qualifier. In opposition was Samster's Annie Antagonist, already a winner of a Triple Crown Stayers Qualifier this season,Jekegr Stables' West Of The Pecos, already twice placed in similar events and Whymea Farms' Mass Deception who seems to be exceptional over a broad range of distances.

Domination's End almost pulled of the impossible. With events conspiring against her practically from the start she did extremely well under the circumstances to get anywhere near the eventual winner, jockey Ted Reynolds deserving a large slice of the blame. It wasWest Of The Pecos who was best placed to take advantage and she got home by three-quarters of a length. Annie Antagonist stayed on well to take third spot but Mass Deception was never firing today and trailed in a disappointing fifth. She is a quality mare though and it would be foolhardy to write her off based on this alone.

The standings now show West Of The Pecos leading the way, ahead of Samster's Annie Antagonist just one point adrift. Domination's End now sits in third place merely two points further behind with all to play for.

2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient will not take his chance in this year's renewal having failed to progress.

The 2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient will not take his chance in this year's renewal having failed to progress sufficiently in the attempt to bring him back to peak fitness in time for 'the race that stops a nation', writes Elliot Slater.

Efficient's absence from the starting line-up is far from a surprise, the seven-year-old's owner Lloyd Williams having repeatedly hinted that the horse wasn't making the necessary progress and was a doubtful contender for the world's richest two-mile handicap race.

Despite having been allotted the steadier of joint top-weight (along with John Oxx's Irish raider Alandi), there were still those who hoped that the son of Nabeel would be able to take his chance and bid to reprise his famous 2007 success, in which he came with a swooping late run under Michael Rodd to deny the Luca Cumani-trained Purple Moon by half-a-length.

A fragile horse who has proved difficult to keep sound for long periods, Efficient was last seen in action when putting up another tremendous performance to land the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes over a mile-and-a-quarter at Flemington last October, under Nicholas Hall, holding on in a desperate finish to beat Predatory Pricer by a short-head.

Connections will be hopeful that their winner of over £1.8 million in career prize money will make it back to the track later this term, as he has relatively few miles on the clock having started just 14 races in over four seasons and proved himself a versatile performer at distances as varied as seven furlongs and two miles.

Last year's Melbourne Cup winner Shocking remains on course in the Melbourne Cup odds to defend his title and is a strong favourite to follow up on November 3rd having shown his wellbeing with a brilliant win over a mile at Flemington at the weekend.

Punters ponder publication of Melbourne Cup weights

Punters ponder publication of Melbourne Cup weights

Racing Victoria Chief Handicapper Greg Carpenter appears to have done a good job in framing the weights for this year's 150th running of the Emirates Melbourne Cup 2010, with few obvious murmurings of discontent emanating from either the ranks of trainers or owners of runners entered for the world famous two-mile contest, writes Elliot Slater.

Last year's winner Shocking has been allocated a 6kg higher mark, which clearly takes into account the tremendous improvement shown by the Mark Kavanagh-trained runner over the last 12 months, and local punters seem hopeful that the five-year-old son of Street Cry can win back-to-back renewals of 'the race that stops a nation'. A 20/1 joint-third favourite with British betting firms following the publication of the weights, Shocking is available at the same odds with local bookmakers who have him joint favourite with Faint Perfume.

British firms still make Ascot Gold Cup winner Rite of Passage a 14/1 favourite in the Melbourne Cup betting odds to grab glory 'Down Under' despite the record of previous winners of the Ascot marathon not being particularly strong. Horses such as Drum Taps and Double Trigger failed to ever land a blow, whilst the mighty four-time Ascot Gold Cup hero Yeats could only finish seventh in 2006.

Rite Of Passage has been allotted a racing weight of 57kg, some 3kgs more than his stable companion Profound Beauty, the pair both trained by Dermot Weld, the Irish handler who has twice before sent the Aussies packing with Vintage Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle in 2002. A best priced 16/1 with British firms, Profound Beauty is available at more than double those odds in Australia, whilst Rite of Passage can be backed with local firms at 22/1.

Classy local filly Faint Perfume (20/1), and other popular Australian challengers So You Think (23/1) and Shoot Out (23/1,) have also not lacked support since the weights were published.
