Grade 1 Low 'Limited' Races ('Earnings' Capped)
In mid-July it was announced that we will be introducing ‘Limited’ races to the Grade 1 Low schedule during the course of this season. Their purpose being to provide a form of restriction that prevents the stronger Champ type Grade 1 horses from running in these Grade 1 Low races. It was suggested that by placing an ‘earnings cap’ on these races would achieve this.
Whilst doing finer specifications for development of this new race category, a few things have unveiled themselves which we seek members opinions on or to simply make you aware of at this point.
1. The ‘earnings cap’ will need to vary throughout the season as horses earnings generally increase as the season unfolds.
2. We would all need to accept that some of us will not always agree on the ‘earnings caps’ scheduled at any one time.
3. We would need to develop an on-going process of determining what ‘earnings caps’ will be suitable at the time races are scheduled for. We are concerned that this would lead to much argument between us and members, or amongst members, as it can be very subjective.
4. As races are scheduled in advance, therefore ‘earnings caps’ may need to be adjusted on races already scheduled, on condition there aren’t any entries in them yet.
So we are looking for members opinions on the introduction of the ‘earnings’ capped races. If you feel that we shouldn’t do them, then what is your suggestion? If you are in favour, then what are your suggested ‘earnings levels’ to start off with for each age?

An alternative way of introducing this earnings cap is to allow the first member that enters the race the ability to set the cap for that race. The member could then either decide to try and cater only for his own horse and risk not getting runners or cater for a wider field and be more accommodating of other members.
We are looking forward to receiving your viewpoints on this topic and finding a solution to Grade 1 Low entries.
