BELMONT STAKES PREVIEW FILLIESDigiturf's mid-season Triple Crown concludes this Saturday with the running of the Belmont Stakes Finals. Before looking at the entries for the race, let's take a moment to look back and congratulate the winners of the first two legs of the Triple Crown. In the Kentucky Derby, Black Lotus' Mass Deception ran a great race to defeat a tough group of ladies. In the Preakness, Maple Leaf Farm's Superstar 2 year old Filly Rusty's Princess won her first of what undoubtedly will be many championships. The Belmont will be contested at the always difficult 2400m distance. This distance has been the undoing of many top horses, being too far for sprinters to extend their speed, while being short for the true stayers. FILLY DIVISION FINALISTSBIGMOMMA (Chrisman)- The new arrival to the Chrisman barn is a proven Championship performer. She has run races from 1400-3200 and is a good hard knocking filly. She is a former Juvenile Stayer's Champion. She had an impressive Kentucky Qualifying Win at today's distance in the mud. Prefers a longer distance but could surprise with some breaks.BIGSLICK QUEEN (Bigslick)- Lightly raced 2 year old who obviously prefers the off going. Huge Qualifier win on June 7 in the mud stamps her as a serious contender. She shows a jump starter win at 2400, but of course it is big leap from that to racing with these ladies. Nevertheless, off of her huge race, she has a serious chance to win it all.COUNTESS BETHORY (Evil Racing Ltd.)- Big win on Soft Going at 2200 on June 1, and shows a nice Preakness Win at 2400 in the mud last season. Won the Triple Crown Stayer's Championship and was 3rd in the Triple Crown Classic. Her best races have generally been at 2850 so she will need the breaks to pull off a big win in the Finals.DOGGY BLASTER (Chrisman)- Second in filly classic at 2400 last season and 3rd in the Derby Championship. Would have had a better chance if the race had come up on a fast track, but can get the distance and can't be counted out.GET MY DAD (Maple Leaf Farms)- Had a nice 2nd to Bigslick Queen in the June 7th Qualifier. Former Triple Crown Classic Champion. All of her best races are at 1800 and 2200. She does not show any good efforts at 2400 and will be hard pressed to run a lifetime best against this level of competition.MACKA DUB (Chrisman)- Ran a big second to Toc’s Black Widow on June 5th, and also appears to like today’s distance. She loves the mud and therefore has to be given a serious shot to win it all.RUSTY QUEEN (Evil Racing Limited)- Shows back class on a muddy track at this distance. Nice 3rd to Salty Girl in May 30 Qualifier and came back with a nice win in her next race. Loves the distance and is a big factor in the mud. RUSTY’S PRINCESS (Maple Leaf Farms)- Can she run this far? Is there anything that this amazing filly cannot do? She has been a monster at most sprint and Classic distances. Won the Preakness Final at 1800 and a qualifier at 2400. She can run on anything and if she likes the distance will be a definite threat to win it all.SALTY GIRL (Chrisman)- Had a big win on May 30th at today's distance on Muddy Ground. She is proven at this distance having come 3rd in the Kentucky Filly Classic on a fast track. Her past performances also show a solid qualifying win last season at this distance in the mud. She has shown that she can handle the distance and the going and is a solid contender.SECRET MISTRESS (Fullhouse)- Had a nice qualifying victory in the mud on June 3rd, but this is another classy filly whose best races are sprinting or running shorter classic distances. She shows no major victories at 2400 and will need the breaks to get part of the money.THE FAME MONSTER (Black Lotus) - Has solid form at today's distance, finishing 2nd to Salty Girl in the Mud on May 30th, and having previously won a Preakness Qualifier on a firm surface. Her other past form shows a 2nd on World Championship Day in the Mud, and a big 2nd in a qualifier on a fast track. She is one of the few horses that seems to prefer this distance and has a shot in a wide open race.THE SNOOKIE PUNCH (Karl Khoder)- Big second to Countess Bethory on June 1 at 2200. The Finals distance of 2400 appears to be too far for her, and she does not show her best efforts at this distance. A terrific horse but will need the breaks to come up big in the finals.TOC’S BLACK WIDOW (Tockyocky Racing)- Juvenile Classic and Stayer Champion was a very impressive winner of the June 5th Qualifier. Loves the Distance and gets her preferred surface, an off track. A definite threat to win it all.TOC'S BLOODY MARY (Tockyocky Racing)- Another nice 2 year old from Toc's Barn. Won a Juvenile Classic Qualifier at 2400. Seems to prefer an off track and loves the distance. She is in a tough spot but merits consideration in a wide open race.KEY RACEAlthough Salty Girl's May 30th Qualifying Win was at the Championship Distance on the same Muddy Surface, it is hard not to be impressed with Bigslick Queen's win at 2200m also on a muddy surface. Not only did she beat many of today's finalists, she did it with Khaled Azzam aboard, never an easy task. RACE ANALYSISThe Belmont Finale is truly a wide open affair with almost every horse having an excellent chance of emerging with top honors.Bigslick Queen, Countess Bethory, Macka Dub, Rusty Queen, Salty Girl, and Toc's Black Widow all love the surface and the distance. It would not be a surprise to see any of them win.Bigmomma, The Fame Monster, Toc's Black Mary, Doggy Blaster, and Rusty Princess all have a shot on their best. But The Fame Monster, Get My Dad, and Toc's Black Mary will need the best of breaks to win it all. Bigmomma and Rusty's Princess are champions in every sense of the word, but 2400 does not appear to be their best distance. The Snookie Punch and Secret Mistress do not seem suited to today's distance and are in tough spots with the depth of competition facing them. Any one of the top 6 can win on their best. Bigslick Queen was very impressive in her Qualifying win. Toc's Black Widow was a two time champion last season. But the four older ladies, Countess Bethory, Macka Dub, Rusty Queen, Salty Girl, are proven stakes competitors. It should be a terrific race!!!The Colt Preview will be posted after the last Qualifier on Friday.Good luck to all!! Bigbob
