Juvenile Sprint Championship - Colts - Hong Kong 1200 Firm

An interesting observation about this race is that more than half of the runners were purchased in auction at an average price of just over $700. The lowest price paid was $225 for Bob's Gun Bow and the highest being Purple Chip at $1,999. Bigbob may have pulled off a big value buy as Bob's Gun Bow is perfectly suited to the distance and could certainly earn here, in fact, on yielding this good looking colt would have been my top choice - unfortunatly for Bob the going has come up firm and could be his undoing. At the other end of the scale we have the incredibly classy Purple Chip from the powerful Cepat Kaya stable - this is definitely the pick of his four runners having won three times over 1200 and always earning a check over the distance despite not having the best of luck. Purple Chip loves the firm going and has gone well at Hong Kong before - for me, this is a top contender in the race and could very well be the one to break Cepat Kaya's Championship maiden.

There are several other big runners in the field including the likes of Diamond Crown, Sultan Of Swings, Mischief Managed and Simply Spiteful. Diamond Crown leads the standings and with six wins over 1200 has to have a big shot, the only concern is the going - this top class sprinter has not shown his best over firm but with things going his way could quite easily win it for Karl Khoder. Pokerstars' Sultan Of Swings is always a big runner in the qualifiers and has shown top form over 1200, in my opinion he prefers it a little further to unleash his devastating finish but with the right jockey up he'll be right there. Simply Spiteful does not have much exposed form but doesn't seem suited to the going or the shorter sprint while Mischief Managed has never been out of the money in twelve runs over 1200 and is probably the one to give Purple Chip the biggest challenge on the day.

Sprint Championship races are notorius for producing upsets and this season there are a few who could do it - Table Max likes the firm going and could surprise while Donnie Brasco seems to have massive potential and could be right up there. Ap Cyclone loves the going but definitely prefers 1400 - on champ day he could be right there in the firing line.

The selection goes to Purple Chip to win from Mischief Managed with Sultan Of Swings and Diamond Crown fighting out the minor money. Best of the rest are Bob's Gun Bow, Donnie Brasco, Simply Spiteful, Table Max and Ap Cyclone.
