Triple Crown Stayer Championship Colts
Secret Legend (Karl Khoder)7-1 (Stall 1)(Good Draw)(G)(C)
Classy colt that will go very close if able to stay this longer trip then he is used to running at. His only attempt at this trip was a well-beaten eighth of ten to Quiet Messiah. On a plus point, he is well drawn and loves the track and ground and comes from a good stable that deserves a change of luck. All depends on if he stays the trip. 3 Stars
Quiet Messiah (Chrisman)4-9Fav (Stall 2) (Poor Draw)(CD)(G)(CW)
The class act of the field and winner of last year’s Juvenile stayer final. Backed as if defeat was out of the question last season and favourite this year also but the ground isn’t right for him here and although did win on this ground in his juvenile days prefers different ground to what he will get here. The draw hasn’t been kind either so could be a difficult night for Chrisman’s classy colt against some useful opponents. 5 Stars
Machine Code (Chrisman)14-1 (Stall 3)(Average Draw)(G)(C)
Has never run over this trip but decent enough form at shorter and comes from a shrewd stable. His chances like Secret Legend hints on if he stays the trip. 2 Stars
The Virus (Cmr Racing)7-1(Stall 4)(Best Draw)(D)
Two wins from fourteen starts at this trip and both of them in qualifiers at this trip but both where on a muddy surface. The Virus is yet to win from six attempts on this ground and is nought from two on this track also. On the plus side, he does have the best draw. 3 Stars
Diz The Flyer (Chrisman)20-1(Stall 5)(Poor Draw)(CDG)
Four of his five wins have come in fields of six runners or less and has won over course and distance. More needed here to collect first prize 2 Stars
Peanutz (Whymea Farms)25-1 (Stall 6) (Average Draw) (D)
Some good pieces of form what would give him each way claims here (3rd of 7 to Manhattan Bound) from an okay draw but not sure ground this fast will help his cause. 2 Stars
Brian Tilsley (The Manor House)33-1 (Stall 7) (Average Draw) (CDG)
Won three from seven at this trip all low-grade affairs (C and a D Division and an allowance race) but at least knows how to win. Decent draw to help him here and ground wont b a problem like it will be for some of the others could go well at a nice price. 2 Stars
Smart Alex (Whymea Farms) 40-1(Stall 8) (Average Draw)(CDG)
Won a three runner Juvenile Jive Handicap over this trip and a four-runner C-Division course and distance win. But needs to find plenty more than that to win this. 2 Stars
Crown Warrior (Whylie Park)12-1 (Stall 9) (Worst Draw) (CP)(G)(D)
One of the best two year old stayers and was second to Quiet Messiah in this event last year. But looks a shadow of his Juvenile days and doesn’t inspire confidence that he is nought from ten at this track. Major claims on two-year-old form. 3 Stars
Rule The City (Trezza Stables)12-1 (Stall 10) (Average Draw)(G)(D)(C)
Sems to like the track and 3 from 6 here and won four from twenty at the trip. Has plenty to find on form with Quiet Messiah and even a below par Messiah might not be enough for this stayer to claim first prize. 2 Stars
Going For Broke (Whymea Farms)14-1 (Stall 11) (Good Draw)(G)(D)
There or thereabouts over this trip but not sure if this ground or track are ideal and needs to find more to trouble best of these. 2 Stars
Mikes Back (Woodbury Meadows)40-1 (Stall 12) (Average Draw) (D)(G)
Has ran mainly at a lower grade then this and his two wins from thirteen starts have been when Jack Ford has been on board. Need Plenty more here. 1 Star
Crown Son (Chrisman) (Stall 13)20-1 (Average Draw) (D)
Another to have decent enough form at this trip only to be let down by being nought from four over ground and nought from 4 at the track. Chance if handling conditions. 2 stars
Manhattan Bound (Whymea Farms)4-1(Stall 14) (Average Draw) (CD)
Three from twenty-five over this distance and has won over course and distance on two of them occasions, but the ground was muddy and concerns over this ground. He is nought from eleven on the ground and has to be a worry. 2 Stars
Benz Verdict
Quiet Messiah will be all the rage here and everything points to him at least being in the money. Major worry for me is the draw and more importantly the ground. This could be his least favourite ground and could be vulnerable on this ground. Only problem is who will take advantage if he is found wanting? To be honest nothing really stands out, Crown Warrior would have massive claims on his Juvenile form but has lost the plot this season. Secret Legend would be a massive danger but major doubts that he will stay this far. Same can be said for the talented Machine code as well.
Ground seems to have gone wrong for The Virus but has the Best Draw and has claims if handling the faster surface. Rule The City has very good track form but just seems he can never get the better of Quiet Messiah but this might be the best chance he has to gain some revenge for all them defeats on the biggest stage of all. Manhattan Bound another with form claims but is yet another who has a poor record on this ground (Nought from eleven of fast going) Although nothing wrong with track or distance and still one of the more likelier winners if Quiet Messiah is found wanting. The other one that may surprise a few is Brian Tilsley who usually runs at a lower level but has no problems with ground track or trip and could sneak into a place at a big price. But to me although I think he could be vulnerable the percentage call is to go with Quiet Messiah and hope his class sees him home for The Chrisman team.
