Maple Leaf has another monster filly in the Juvenile Sprint Championships!

JUVENILE SPRINT-FILLIES

Distance 1400 Hong Kong Soft --

HURRICANE ALLIE(WHYMEA FARMS) -Allie has had an outstanding Juvenile Season, winning qualifiers at distances from 1200-1600. She has also won on fast, muddy, firm, soft, and yielding surfaces, showing her versatility. She is well suited to today's distance and is the logical pre-race favorite.

MISS MOLLYDOLLY(SQUIB RACING) -She has a win and a 2nd in qualifiers at this distance. A firm track would seem to be her preferred surface. She shows no championship efforts on anything other than firm or fast tracks. She is Squib's first championship starter, and he is hoping for some luck to bring home the stable's first championship.

HENDERSON SCORES(MAPLE LEAF FARMS) - She does not look as impressive as her stable mate, but she has shown solid ability with a win and a 2nd in qualifiers. Her best efforts have been at 1600, but she has run well on a variety of surfaces and could surprise. Part of a big Maple Leaf Entry.

MUTTON HONEY(WHYMEA FARMS) -Lightly raced filly had a win and a 2nd in qualifiers. But they were both at 1200. This filly has been raced almost exclusively on a fast or firm surface, and would seem to need her favored surface to run her best. Part of a solid Whymea Entry.

CENTER ICE LOONIE(MAPLE LEAF FARMS) - A year after monster Rusty's Princess hit the track, Maple Leaf has another championship contender with this girl. She exploded on the scene late in the season with a win in the November 2nd qualifier at 1200 on a fast track, a big 2nd in the mud at today's distance, and another win at 1200. Although she has only had a few races, she looks like the horse to beat.

FIRST UP(BLACK LOTUS) -Qualified for the finals on the strength of a big 2nd place finish in the October 19th qualifier. In that race she ran a solid 2nd to Thrifty Fifty at today's distance, in the mud, and was probably the best horse on that day. She also finished the season with another 2nd on November 16th to Center Ice Loonie. She looks like she will like the soft going.

THRIFTY FIFTY(PRICER) -Mid-season arrival stamped herself as a contender with her win in the October 19th qualifier and a 2nd at this distance on November 9th, both in the mud. She also had a 4th on a firm track at 1600. She is lightly raced so it is hard to get a handle on her, but she does not seem to like the soft going.

ONOONOGRIETJE(ONOONOFLYERS) -The race caller would have his hands full with this horse. This girl is this relatively new stable's first championship starter. She has shown versatility running various distances and on various surfaces but does not show a championship level effort and will need a lot of racing luck for an in-the-money finish.

BLACK NAME(REDDAVE) -Although he would appear to be an outsider based upon the point standings, this colt has had two impressive races at 1400. He had a 2nd to Miss Mollydolly on August 17th with Massimo Conti, and a 3rd to Hurricane Allie on September 28th with Heinrich Nikolaus.

CALCUTTA RIVER (THE BLUE) -This is quite a story with a finals appearance by a rookie stable. This filly had a 3rd and a 4th at today's distance in the mud. There is no indication that she can duplicate this form on the turf and she seems to be strictly a "mudder", but congratulations to the stable on getting to the finals.

DARLA'S DELIGHT(WHYMEA FARMS) -Another filly who appears to prefer the mud, she made it to the finals on the strength of a big 2nd in the September 7th Qualifier. In that race, at today's distance in the mud, she ran a big 2nd to Hurricane Allie. All of her best races have been in the mud, and there is no indication that she can run a big race on the turf.

U STANDING STILL(TURNER FARMS)-Her best race was a 4th to Center Ice Loonie in the November 2nd Qualifier. That was at 1200 on a fast track. This is the stable's first championship starter, and their horse will needed a firm track to have a chance at an in-the-money finish.

QUIET PARIAH(DEEOG) Made the finals thanks to a 3rd place finish to Henderson Scores at 1600 on a firm track. She can run the distance but does not look like a prime contender. But this stable has an amazing 26% win percentage in finals and over a 50% in- the-money record, so any horse of theirs must be respected.

DRIFT QUEEN(REDDAVE) -Her best race was a 4th in the October 19th qualifier to Thrifty Fifty. That was in the mud at today's distance. She does not show any top efforts on the turf, and her entry mate would appear to have a better chance.

RACE ANALYSIS

Hurricane Allie has had an outstanding Juvenile Season and looks like the horse to beat. Henderson Scores has been versatile hard charging filly all season, and could contend on her best. First Up does not have the credentials of the other favorites, but likes the soft going.

Miss Mollydolly and Mutton Honey were definite contenders if the track surface had been different. But a soft turf course hurts them.

Thrift Fifty, Black Name, Calcutta River, Darla's Delight, Drift Queen, and U Standing Still did not get the surfaces that they like. They will have a tough time contending in this very tough race.

Onoonogrietje will need a lifetime best effort to contend. Quiet Pariah looks like she will need a lot of breaks to grab a minor share, but her two races on a soft track were not bad.

The only horse that I have not mentioned, is my pick to win. Although Center Ice Loonie does not show a race on a soft turf course, she looks like she can run on anything. It looks like Maple Leaf has another monster, and she is my pick for the race.

Hurricane Allie has the best chance to beat her. Henderson Scores and First Up are the other contenders for the money.

Good luck to all. Bob
