You’re No April Fool ~ April Fools Derby Day

This coming Friday is April 1st. A day that not only marks the start of a brand new season of racing but is the first opportunity for many trainers to take their new 2 year olds to the racecourse which were bought as yearlings in recent weeks.

April 1st is also the only day where it can be considered honourable for a horse to finish LAST. 
For every 2 year old stakes race (excluding Claimers, WFAs & Rated races) that runs on Friday April the 1st, the last placing Juvenile in each race will win a prize. 
Any horse to come last in a Grade 1 race will win $25 Bonus Credits, Grade 1 Low getting $20 Bonus Credits. Any horse that comes last in a Grade 2 race will win $15 Bonus Credits, and any horse finishing last in a Grade 3 stakes race will win $5 Bonus Credits. Credits will be allocated by Wednesday 6 April 2011.

Wait - But that’s not all, more will be revealed this Tuesday of an even further reason to get racing.

Tip: if you are not otherwise busy priming your horses for the Finals that are on at the moment, make sure your yearlings are ready to run come 1 April.

*FYI: Any yearlings bought in March have an extended benefit – their first stabling fees, if un-raced and therefore have a stabling fee, will only be due towards the end of May. So they get an extra 30 days free stabling – oohwa!
