The Race
The starter hit the lever and the big pack of fillies darted into the bend over the USA 1400 Metres track. Jockeys were jostling for position early with many of the outside runners trying to improve their chances around the bend with Beaded rushing up to the front to try and track across to the rail ahead of Sonic Blaster, Benzinator, Rachel Alexander and Popcorn holding her position along the rail. The field split into three distinct packs as they traveled towards the 5 furlong marker with Sonic Blaster taking up a narrow lead from Benzinator and Rachel Alexander holding her position between runners. Beaded was forced wide behind them with Deadly Mistress, Jetting Judy, Pop Corn and Maico all part of the leading pack.7 lengths back we found the trio of Victory Angel, Secret Mistress and Glittering Ghost with Shulamite, The Mad Hungarian and Coup De Grace trailing the field more than a dozen lengths off the leaders.Into the home stretch and with 6 furlongs to go, Ford released Rachel Alexander and she skipped a length clear of Benzinator, Sonic Blaster and Popcorn. Deadly Mistress and Jetting Judy were still a handy 3 lengths off the leader with Beaded and Maico while the rest of the field had more than 10 lengths to make up. Into the final furlong, Ford had stolen a march on Rachel Alexander and she was galloping strongly 2 lengths clear of Jetting Judy who was under a hard ride from Virenque, Maico was still hanging on gamely but making no impression on the leader while Coup De Grace had taken off like a rocket from the rear of the field and was flying at the leaders. Ford had timed his run perfectly and Rachel Alexander kept going gamely to win from Jetting Judy and a fast finishing Coup De Grace. Maico stayed on for 4th ahead of Deadly Mistress in 5th. Congratulations to Sunny Future on his first Championship Win!Results
