Juvenile Sprint Championship - Colts - America 1400 Muddy

While this race certainly has a very open look about it, on further inspection I think it comes down to three main contenders. West Gone Black firmly leads the points standings but has not shown his best form form over 1400 and on muddy going - Chrisman's home-bred has not been blessed with the best randoms and could surprise with a good jockey but my preference is for the recent auction purchase Tropic Lightning - Cepat Kaya forked out $810 for this good looking colt and with the going coming up muddy I think he has a very good chance of recouping his purchase price before the season is out.

Surprisingly 3 of my top 4 selections were sold in auction - Furstin, recently acquired by Black Lotus for just over $1000 absolutely loves the mud and if Tropic Lightning fails I think Furstin will be the first to capitalise. My outsider in the race is Karl Khoder's The Backstabber - in a recent discussion with KK he felt that his best chance in the race was Sebring so he is one not to leave out of calculations either.

Jekegr Stables sends out a three pronged attack on the race and is sure to earn a check with Rumblin Ryan possibly being the pick.

The selection goes to Tropic Lightning to win from West Gone Black and Furstin, with all of The Backstabber, Rumblin Ryan, Stigmatized and Melchizedech fighting it out for the minor money.

Juvenile Sprint Championship - Fillies - Hong Kong 1400 Yielding

The fillies sprint championship is a wide open affair and three of my top selections are not strictly sprinters which throws the race even wider open. Spectacular Liz, Press Up and Mass Deception all have excellent form over further than 1400 metres and although they look the pick of the bunch, we have seen in the past that these big sprints are usually won by specialists.

Lanquedoc Stables' Secret Queen looks to be the perfect fit in this race with her best form over 1400 yielding and this former Trezza in-mate could suprise them all. Having said that, my selection will stay with the class of the race which looks to be Spectacular Liz - this filly loves the yielding and in Tri M Fent's own words is "one of the best of her generation" - some may argue that Mass Deception is as good, but starting from the dreaded 13 post she will have her work cut out to catch Spectacular Liz in pole position.

Chrisman's Press Up is a top class filly but has never run on yielding going which suggests Chris has been avoiding it for obvious reasons, however, if she goes ok on the yielding track she should be a factor.

Of the others, I like the look of Melito who according to Karl Khoder has been putting in some excellent work at home and his other charge Encounter who he believes should go well on yielding, while Worldwater Stables can never be ignored in these big events and his charge Secret Squeeze should be up in the firing line. The best outsider for me is docter turf's Frost Line who has solid 1400 Metre form.

The selection is Spectacular Liz to win it with Press Up, Secret Queen and Mass Deception to fight it out for the minor money. Look out for Melito who could be better than rated and Secret Squeeze who could go well with a decent jockey on her back.
